The Chinese Humvee Copy – Eastwind EQ2050 Dongfeng EQ2050

dong feng hummer The Chinese Humvee Copy Eastwind EQ2050 Dongfeng EQ2050

The symbol of all things American, the overly big, resource wasting, road hogging SUV come monster truck jeep – the Humvee has an Asian copycat, in terms of the East Wind (Dong Feng in Chinese) EQ2050 and Shenyang Aircraft Industry Co’s SFQ2040 HMWWV (pictured below)

Sinopec has actually bought real Humvees from the USA in the 90′s for use in the civillian sectors. According to Sinodefence.com, the chassis and several parts of the engine come from GM, would the PLA want to rely on foreign companies to supply its potentially main vehicle? Probably not. Im not sure how realiable this information is, seeing as the US and Europe (and most of the capitalist world) has a ban on exporting weapons technology to China for use within weapon systems.

The Dongfeng humvee has a V8 AMG Diesel engine, with 200BHP and a price tag of 250k RMB I’m sure the PLA boys will have a great time playing with this bad boy. The body has only basic protection from small arms fire but looks like it could be upgraded, as could the whole body, to carry missiles, or gun mounts etc. Check out the pictures in the more info section.
Anyway, there are two companies in China that are producing Humvee copies, and both are undergoing road testing with the PLA.

I cant believe they have so deliberately copied an entire car! The shape/style of it is practically the same as the American hummer!

How much is it, any plans to export it?

  2. avatar plex says:

how small does one’s penis need to be to drive one of these things?

  3. avatar ashsutcliffe says:

    Plex,

One would assume it would have to be quite small.

  4. avatar rgafggggds says:

    It’s a licensed copy

  5. avatar Phillip Woon says:

Nothing to see here folks, move along. Why do people hang around China car forums to make fun. Why don’t they go to American car forums and make fun of those low-quality vehicles?

  6. avatar Alexander says:

Well I for one don’t care about that it it looks like and is based upon the Humvee. Due to the nature of such vehicles in order to fulfil the brief of a military application it would end end up being similar as it seems that it is the best for the task.

The Iveco LMV, also seems to be of the same proportions. And I’m sure there are many vehicles out there which have taken the Humvee aproach to the task.

    for reference the Iveco LMV

The Iveco LMV is totally different from the ugly Humvee. It’s obvious that the proportions are similar between same class vehicles, but this don’t mean that the design is similar too (Iveco is a beauty, even if it’s a rough military vehicle).Talking about the chinese copy: yes it’s surely identical to the Hummer!

  8. avatar dan says:

Sorry, but why the Iveco LMV would be “a beauty”? What’s rong whith HMMWV? Hope your I LMV is as reliable as HMMWV (…isn’t it something like …FIAT?)?

  9. avatar Mark says:

There should be an international regulating body to prevent Chinese from copying designs of western cars. Let’s create it now!!

It is interesting how the PLA can so willingly buy “copies” of another countries products. Is it that the Chinese don’t have the intellectual capital available to produce a really good original vehicle on their own? Where is the superiority in that? Where is your pride.

The Chinese government should do what the so-called inferior capitalist system does (since the chinese have no identity outside of their government apparently) and invest in intellectual capital to produce highly competitive “ORIGINAL” designs and products.

I applaude the modernization attempt by the Chinese which has been astounding to the rest of the world.

However, integrity and self esteem matter, not ego. So if you want to be trusted, and admired, produce original items, and do it well. Take a lesson from South Korea. They didn’t simply copy electronics and knock-off cheap substitutes, LG for instance took good designs and improved them 100% and did so economically. That is innovation and that is admirable.

The Point: Make less cheap copies, and you will have a true engine of progress. The Chinese surely have the brains and the will to do great things technologically, and I for one am waiting to see what the next 20 years brings for that great nation.
