Malcom Brickin, the entrepenuer that originally planned to import Chery cars into the US before the plan broke down for unknown reasons was today quoted on the Edmunds News Website as saying
“The crux of our decision came from the realization that the Chinese need to learn that you cannot develop cars for the Chinese domestic market and then upgrade them for the North American market,” Bricklin said in a statement. “You must, instead, build for the North American market and then de-option for other markets, never having two standards for quality since great quality is the only option.”
Bricklin was previously stated in November 2006 via the Wall Street Journal that Chery could not build or engineer a car that was safe enough for the US market, fast forward to December 2006 Chery released crash test photos showing the Chery A5 in a head on collision scenario, Chery passed the test with full marks, proving that the Chery A5 is a safe car. So whats wrong with Mr. Bricklin, sour grapes? Perhaps.
