Brilliance Review by a UK magazine
Uh oh – it doesnt look good.
Oh dear! We were expecting so much from China’s European debut – but the Brilliance BS6 is a massive letdown. It falls behind rivals in every area, with poor quality, average dynamics and nondescript styling. The lack of safety kit and terrible crash test rating are real causes for concern. The idea of having a large executive car for the price of a hatchback is appealing but, apart from space, the BS6 offers little else.
I found the Brilliance to be one of China’s ‘better’ cars, the quality wasnt too bad and I thought the interior was pretty decent for the 100k RMB price tag, I would probably buy one if I was a ‘budding exec’ but seeing as Im not I wont buy one. Autoweek magazine did praise the Brilliance BS6 for having a decent boot (trunk) and good leg room for rear passengers but on the downside the interior was of inferior quality and the suspension too soft in places. One commenter on China Car Forums said:
Every market region has different taste in automobile.
For example, Hyundai Sonata is well received in the US and often rated above Toyota Camry in comparison tests is blasted in UK for being too big, too thirsty, and too floaty.(The car is tuned to US market taste)
On the other hand, Kia Cee’d, specifically designed for Euro market, is getting very favorable launch reviews in UK, but this car would have received a bad review in Korea because the suspection setting is too hard and car is too small for Korean taste.
So the point is that it is difficult for non-Euro cars to get favorable reviews unless it is specifically designed for Euro market. Since Chinese auto market taste resembles that of US/Korea, Chinese cars won’t be region specific for decades to come, bad reviews will continue.
So if Brilliance change their cars styling to focus more on what Europeans want in cars they would get more sales? Perhaps!

dear nabil … if I were you i would NEVER buy this car … don’t believe the misleading advertising campaigns and ‘paid’ editorials in the Egyptian newspaper at all … they are all paid adverorials … this car is very dangerous when it comes to a crash! it didnt pass the EuroNCAP crash-test, which is the most important crash-test in Europe and people returned their cars in Europe after those results became public !!!

The original test was carried out by ADAC on behalf of a consortium of German car makers. ADAC say they did the test to Euro NCAP specs, but did they really? Perhaps they have an axe to grind?

Don’t buy this car under any circumstances….it is as safe as if u smash a cartoon of eggs against a concrete wall!
Sorry,the cartoon of eggs may be safer…and this scorpion car named i116 marketed and selled through the Bavarian Auto Group is a very primitive car that has a center of gravity higher than the Pisa tower…drive this car during a sharp s-shaped curve and u and ur passengers will experience the exceptional feeling of riding the Disney World railways…it will slide on it’s side and the people will suffer from motion sickness at the minimum!
Spend more money and invest it in a reliable,safe car which has a perfect safety,service, and resell history…not a company that used to produce transistor radios and suddenly remembered that they may produce cars.Go to autoarabia.org an read the crash report!!
Also the magazine that reviewed the car, ALWAYS give Chinese cars rotten reviews. Paid to do so? Probably! Until the Chinese start giving them advertisement money!

dear Ash … the ‘Spanish’ crash-test plays no role at all when it comes to renowned and internationally recognized crash-test results like the EuroNCAP or the IIHS in America (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) … besides we tried to figure out who is ’standing behind’ this Spanish organization, as we heard rumors that some Brillance-related investors and owners are ‘involved’ in this Spanish organisation … If Brillance wants to prove to customers that they are producing a SAFE and reliable car then they should pass the EuroNCAP test and stop those mis-leading advertisements and ‘paid editorials’ in the newspaper, especially in Egypt were there is Brillianc factory / assembly line! assembling such a car in Egypt with the well-known miserable Egyptian quality makes this car even worse than it already is !
Ash … so, you think the Brilliance received a devastating EuroNCAP crash-test result because Brilliance didnt pay the EuroNCAP any money and didnt pay the magazine advertising money???? how pathetic of the Chinese car makers is that !!! this is by the way one of the pathetic excuses the Brilliance officials use in Egypt … but do you think that some renowned magazines like auto, motor und sport or AutoBild or CAR or AUTOCAR or Auto Arabia are really waiting for the Brilliance advertising money ???? do u really think they would risk their credibility for a few thousands dollars or euros??? i don’t think so! and if the car was so good, why did the importer in Brussels pay back the money to the Brilliance owners? and why did the German importer confirm that there were severe safety problems with the car???? Can you explain that too? My only explanation is: They paid the money back because the car is simply UNSAFE!
The BS6 that got the 3 stars in an improved version. Whilst 3 stars is not very good it is just about acceptable. I have driven this car in the new 1.8T form and it is not too bad a vehicle. The engine is good and the exterior build quality is good. The main let downs are the interior and the boring styling.

I think you are all wrong.
Just look at Japanese cars 20 years ago. You can say the same, – cheap, not crash worthy, and cheap !
Look at the Chinese car today – it is only ONE generation behind all the major car makers in the world. Even take a GM, Ford or even a VW from 10 yrs ago, and put it through today’s crash standard – all will fail !
China is investing a lot in safety, incl crash testing. A whole new institute was build just for that purpose. Just goto http://www.c-ncap.org and you will understand how serious they are !
I have owned a Splendor (BS4)for just over 2 years and found it to be very reliable & comfortable. The car has good straight line stability and is OK on tight bends, this is not a sports car so dont expect it to corner like an Audi TT. My only complaint is that it is under powered, l believe a 1.8T is available that has addressed the power issue.
