Panda to Peri, “Brother?”

“Great Wall denies copying Fiat” is the headline over at the China Daily news website. We thought it was a bit wierd, The Great Wall copying Fiat. Then we remembered the Chinese Car company, Great Wall. It seems Fiat is a bit irked that the Great Wall looks pretty much identical in every single way to the latest generation Fiat Panda. A spokesmen for Great Wall said ‘“We never copy car designs from other automakers. It took two years for our own design team to develop the Peri” what the other half of the sentence probably should say is ‘by copying images we found of the internet, and because my friends cousin, Li Ming, rented a Panda when he was on a guided tour of Rome last summer, he took all the measurements for us!’ The China Daily news article ends with the sentence ‘The company is one of the few Chinese automakers that develops and produces its own models rather than manufacturing foreign brands under license’
This is the reason why I never buy the China Daily anymore, even if it is the only domestic English language newspaper available in China.

Why they copy? Crazy! I hear the doors can be swap between Fiat and GWM Peri! Like QQ and Spark!
Great Wall doesn’t copy Fiat. (But I seen another small car model from GW may copyed Toyota Yaris)
to Mr. Kermit above !
IT DOES COPY THE FIAT !
CX, get outta here – they look nothing alike!
The Chinese would never stoop so low as to copy somebody else’s design!!!!
ARE YOU BLIND?? THE CHINESE HAVE STOOPED EXTREMELY LOW. THE PERI IS A BAD COPY OF FIAT’S PANDA AND SHOWS CHINESE LACK OF RESPECT AND IMAGINATION. FIAT HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE ANNOYED. THEY ARE BREAKING COPYRIGHT LAWS AND SHOULD BE PUNISHED.
To European eyes, and to Italian especially, not respecting other intellectual work (work on design and so on…) it’s a really unfair and shows a very low respect for other people’s job.
Using no fantasy in creating your own models will lead the Chinese to sell their cars only on their market.
Personally speaking, I am sure I will never buy a Chinese made car.
dude get a grip…..it looks different enuff. it aint a fiat engine, it aint fiat anything. so u think the doors fit, good luck arguing substantiality to a judge in a court buddy. Honesty, the look of the Peri shytes all over the Panda. And Oi! y dont fiat have some ‘fantasy’ and call it an italian name, going around naming it after a chinese bear, if u ask me ur asking for it. U should name the Panda ,’meirda’…it looks like one
ashsutcliffe, it really is a copy of Fiat, but only the rear end. They’re using a Nissan Brand front end, so they pretty much love to combine two cars in one. (Like the Yaris – xA Combo)
Based on these two pictures I can’t see the extent of copying that I see in other cars on the road in China – think BYD F3
maybe you can check the interiors of that car to see the full extent of the plagiarism, it’s 99% identical, only the steering wheel is different.
here you may find the interiors of the Perry:

and here in the sections panda 4×4, panda cross, and panda 100HP, you can find pics of the Panda (model year 2003), which won European Car of the Year award in 2004:

THE PERI IS A COPY OF FIAT’S PANDA!!!! FIAT SHOULD TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST THEM – GREAT WALL IS BREAKING COPYRIGHT LAW AND MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO PRODUCE THIS PANDA CLONE!
Define the word “Clone” first.
Definition of Clone: Literally a fragment, the word in modern medical science has come to mean a replica…e.g. when Fiat’s Panda is reproduced by a BRAINLESS chinese car company who call it the Peri!!!
And for GWM to even call it the “Peri” is insulting because it sounds similar to “Panda”.
Well i guess this is part of chinese culture, which is sad.
It looks great much better than the panda is looking
Dear Sir
I live in Dresden Germany, I had a trip to Beijing and saw some volkswagen panda model car in Beijing, anyway, I want buy one of them in Germany, How I can buy your peoducts in germany?
regards
mehran
Even if it is a copy I think it is a very good looking copy and judging from the size and technology of China maybe we be wont be left without service and support like some other products !
It is using Mitsubishi technology seems well priced as well and hopefully Great Wall will bring in the Diesel model as well while Fiat is not interested to hear that SA is also ready for the Diesel models !
