Malaysia Getting Cherry

Alado Bumi Sdn Bhd (Just how do you say this name??), the franchise holder for Chery Autos in Malaysia has signed a deal with Chery to import CKD (completely knocked down – cars with no engines basically, avoid that pesky car import tax!). The CKD Chery’s will be rebuilt with the help of Proton who recently signed a deal with Chery to help promote the Proton in China. The Chery’s will be rebuilt at a trial rate of just 50 units per month to start with. The models involved are the Chery Tiggo SUV and the Chery MPV B14. Rumor has it that Proton wants to release an SUV type model some time soon, but lacking the technology, they did design something with British company Lotus but presumably that would involve a very high cost. Proton will post probably start knocking out old Chery Tiggos sometime soon, or perhaps the new version that was unleashed at Beijing Auto Show?
