It has been exactly 622 days since production ceased at the Longbridge, UK plant but today, things are getting rolling again. Today, the whole automotive world was looking to China expecting to see the launch of the new MG vehicles, instead the action was back where MG began, in England. Although production at Longbrige will probably never return to the levels of Rovers heyday in the 20th century, Longbridge will continue to produce MG vehicles. Longbridge UK is now producing the MG TF sports car (pictured left) which has an updated look for the UK markets, the older version of the MGTF will go on sale in China, but the newer version will be available in China in 2008. Longbridge will also expand its workforce from the preseant skeleton staff of 110 employees to 250, Longbridge will produce an initial run of 3,000 vehicles in the first year of production which will rise to 8,000 in the second year and then 12,000 in the third.
We at China Car Times are looking forward to getting our hands on a cheap Chinese made MGTF, we hope they are a bit cheaper than the prices that we posted before!
