The last plate, above, shows that the MG7 was made in China, in 2006/09. Must have been one of their earlier prototypes. Funny how it still says Rover on the meter, also the lettering looks like they weren’t applied all that well.

I am 99% certain that is simply an ex-Longbridge car with only the cosmetic exterior alterations carried out in China.

However, interesting to note the use of a Rover 75, rather than an MG ZT, for this example. The Rover dials and wood trim suggest that Nanjing do not intend to differentiate their MG-badged car as MG Rover did.

This looks more like my Rover 75 Contemporary SE – let’s hope the MG, when we finally see some genuine photos, looks like an MG!

Brum Brum, I think this car has the potential to do well in China – with some alterations such as the adding of ICE systems – in car DVD etc and even a GPS system.

At the moment, I don’t think a Chinese punter would choose the MG7 over a decent V6 2.5 Mondeo.

Anyway, this is probably one of their prototypes the y rushed out for testing. Look at the dials, and the missing door panels for a start. Dont even need to mention the badging looks like it was put on a by a blind man in a rush.

Also, look at that poll on this site, 13 people have voted in favour of the MG 7 over the Roewe.

Personally I’m more of a Roewe fan.

and that V6 badge looks more like an upside down g than a 6.

I think the MG7 in the pictures is a Longbridge Plant made model. Why would NAC MG make a car with the Rover Brand on it, when its an MG?

The car plate according to the article says that is made in China. Nanjing probably just used some old spares they had.

Seen on autoexpress website a picture of a completely unchanged TF front view. Looking at the nacmg.com site, it looks as though it will get a revised back end.

As an owner of a 1972 MGB for the last 25 years, I just hope that any MG entrance into the US market does not end up like Sterling did. I was excited when BMW took over MG-Rover, only to be terribly disappointed. Now I just hope Nanjing can get the quality right and not stray from what makes an MG an MG.

the more i think about it, these photos must be of a car made from MGR leftovers. The dash is standard r75, the clocks are from the r75 Contemporary SE and the seats are from a low spec 75. the wheels are from sub 190 spec ZTs. In fact, the only part i think is new is the chromed boot lid handle with the MG badge – on the ZTs, these were body coloured.

i think i must get out more!

what i want to know, is when the MG’s are coming back to Great Britain. The MG range was popular, and still is, i think that the new range is gonna be big seller, and i thjink they shouldn’t wait till 2008 to release them, i think they should bring them in for winter 2007.
#i had the ZR+ and it ran like a princess, it was flawless, and it was certainly a head turner…

I just saw the new MG7 on display here in Shenzhen and it’s a head – turner. Lots of nostalgic touches like white piping on black leather bucket seats, a very retro instrument cluster, and well-built. Its as sporty as it looks!

Good work, China!
