Electric Cars In The USA

Wuzheng NA, previously mentioned on China Car Times for bringing low cost Chinese trucks into the USA, have a new venture - Bringing electric cars into the USA.

The new venture, named ‘Flybo-EV‘ plans to bring a modest range of 3 electric powered cars that can reach top speeds of 45mph (Thats once you’ve had the limiter taken off, otherwise its 25mph) These cars would be great for inner city travel, and at those prices they are practically free. Their flagship model, the below pictured XFD-6000ZK (try saying that drunk) is their most popular model and can reach upto 70 miles on a 7 to 8 hour charge - you can plug this car in using a standard 110v mains cable coming from the ‘gas’ tank. China Car Times is blown away, if only driving electric cars were legal in China (and you think it would be with this environment) we would have one ourselves.

    The Chinese Flybo Electric Car

A Chinese electric car called the Flybo has reached U.S. shores which are sold by a U.S. distributor. Wuzheng North America has made a deal with another Chinese company to sell electric vehicles in the United States. The Wuzheng Company is also known…

I was checking out cars in China as I live in China and was shocked to see this article says electric cars are not legal in China. Typical Chinese “thinking”. One place that really could benefit from the green electric cars. I would buy one if I could drive it. I live in a large city that has horrible air quality and I am concerned. For now I go greener and walk.

They are not illegal, nor are they legal.

They fall into a gray area under CN law, you can technically drive them in the bicycle lane or on the sidewalk, but if you go onto any roads (i.e. non side walk or bicycle lane) your in for a lot of trouble if the plod catch up with you.

Ashley I wonder if you are referring to a law that restricts vehicles of a small wheelbase and track like the Flybo. I think, if for example the BYD F3E electric sedan were to be put into production, it would be legal to drive it on the road. Its dimensions being identical to the F3.

Be careful of dealing with Michael Papp and Wuzheng. You won’t get your money refunded and you won’t get the vehicles, either. Michael Papp was arrested for scamming two dealerships: If the link doesn’t work google Michael Papp The Express Times.

Have you bought one yet or sold any yet? Seems like a nice idea and there are many areas that would go for this in the US. I would think that anyone with a parking lot in visible area could sell these. Any info would be appreciated.
    thanks

I have one of these Flybo’s and love it. It’s perfect in the Hollywood valley area’s. Unfortunately I don’t have a job to drive to everyday so it doesn’t get used much, but when I need it is awesome. IF any of you are in the LosAngeles area reading this and are interested in buying the car, email me. I would consider selling it for what I paid.

John, though a bit late, here’s an alternate contact for the Flybo in the US.

In the USA, there is no crash standard for these little electric cars. They would not be allowed on the road with any other power plant. They are not crash tested.

Ya, I seens the cars forsale new by Wildfire. China name brand. They want alot. I considered buying a 100% electric car, looked at NEV’s, small cars like the electric Smart Car, ect.. but the problem seems to be speed. See, NEV’s or cars that travel only 25 mph can only be allowed on streets 35 mph( and that is if the law doesn’t deem it dangerous). Oh the Smart Car( China made) with a 250cc engine would appear a better deal, but the car wieghs abouts 1500 lbs and by the time you put two in the seat well you are close to 1 ton. Is a 250cc that powerful to push a ton up hill? See I own a Roketa Bali 250cc scooter and it wieghs 340 lbs and me 190 lbs= 530 lbs or approx 1/4th ton. Now the 250cc Smart Car cost $7400.. Not bad, but the engine is really to small. This car might go slightly faster, but if classified as a NEV, well I would be weary to read laws in my home State before investing into one. The SL-150t-27 is a three wheel scooter car that will do 40 mph. The scooter has two seats like a car, steering wheel, turn signal lever on steering columb, brake and gas pedal like car, safety belts, ect.. gets 90 mpg.. It is classified as a automobile because it has the features of a automobile verses a trike. But anyhow, it does 40 mph and thus to the Licence Bureau is classified as a low speed vehicle. Low speed vehicles can’t be operated in speed zones above 35 mph. Read laws before buying any vehicle.
