Boy racers all over China must be rejoicing at this little tidbit of information, the Honda Civic Type R is coming to China. However the Civic Type R wont be made in China via the Dongfeng/Honda joint venture but rather imported directly from Japan with a price tag of 180,580rmb which actually isnt as high as you would think.
Unfortunately for Chinese street racers, the Chinese police are having a bit of a crackdown on racers that dare to drive their cars at upto 150kph! Terrifying indeed. The Honda Type R will really shake up the street racing seen when it arrives, and will certainly give those modified SouEast Galants a run for their money.

180,580rmb !!!! >
This seems like a somewhat fair price (considering the import taxes, etc) - Do you know if it will be available in a 3 door/coupe trim? How much do plain jane 1.8 civics go for around here?
The Lancer Evo goes for a lot more - 450k range, so its quite a bargain!
Im surprised this car didn’t make it on to your list of Sports Cars considerations.
Too bad the 2 Door version doesn’t look like it exists here…. Looking around some chinese car pricing pages, is the Type R called the Vti-S here?
To be fair to the Lancer Evo, its in a different class than the Civic Type R. - Not quite sure its worth 2.25X more, then again Im sure there are many people who can debate this either way
I have no idea if it ever came to China, or if it was just news!
I much prefer the hatchback Civic, anyway!
The VTI-S has since stopped production, but was 170 to 180,000rmb, same 1.8 engine and 140bhp as all the others.
Oh so then the Type R is quite the value then if its just a little more than the VTI-S with the standard 1.8 engine (providing it came with the type R 2L engine). - hmm as soon as I get my ducks in a row, I may have to start the (snipe) hunt…
Nevermind - Found it

(but doesn’t mention the Type R dropping in price along with the other models)
If a proper Type R didn’t have good sales in China at 180,000 Kuai then there is no decent future here for small performance cars at all. 4 doors suit the Chinese market better for practicality but how about a few more hot hatches for people to choose from….
this type r is really looking good my friend has one and he put on nos on his and it is very fast.
