Great Wall i7: We’re not sure what Great Wall were trying to achieve with this model, but we think it looks kinda cool.

Regular Pery: This one got Great Wall into trouble, but we’ve seen it out and about.
Xuan Li: We dont know what the English name is, but it looks cool anyway!
Look pretty cool, but all rip offs of existing (old) Toyotas.
The Cowry looks like an old model Toyota Noah, there is a Bb clone as well as an Ist clone, not to mention a current model Vitz with a horrific new grille!
Well I guess its cheaper than developing your own cars!

Copy cars CAN be good, they can the initial issues that the original car had and IMPROVE on them.
Thats what a smart company would do.
The Great Wall models do look like Toyota, Fiat etc, but hopefully they have improved on their original design flaws and engine problems.
I wish Great Wall all the best with their plans to branch out into the small hatchback market. I hope it becomes one of the big players in the market, like it has done with its pick up and SUV range, both domestically and internationally.
Out of interest, what was the Italian response to those SUV’s from Gonow?

Copy car is not good, there are a lot of people around a car project, copy a car is not a smart idea because they sell this car without the development costs, so the final price is low.
But when the car factory must close where must go the laborers? My opinion is for all the car copy even the Gonow, it is not a serious way of work, I hope somebody stop this.
I agree with Bob, copy stimulate competition and product improvement. The downfall of Alfaromeo is the over-paid labour as compared to hard working Japanese and Korean.
The reason why I mention only the Japanese and Korean cars, is that those are the only ones that matter. European and American cars are cr*p.

In Brazil, our cars are far from the best projects, like european cars 207, Clio or Mégane. But we don’t have one factory copying models of other countries and selling like they were the best option.

Fiat was indeed in danger until little years ago, and in order to survive it has had to play dirty. Now it is being resumed, and it is returning to the old splendor (like the Alfa Romeo). Try to reach some photo of Grande Punto, Bravo, Panda 100hp and new 500. Perhaps they will begin to appeal to to you

It’s funny how Japanese Kimono look like Han Dynasty dress, how Japanese buildings look so Chinese; read upon the origins of Bonsai, Oragami, all Chinese culture copied by the Japanese. Why do you guys use paper, did you copy it from someone? How about porcelain, ceramic, magnetic compass, seismograph, gunpowder, black powder rocket, printing, even the wheel and fire; did you copy them? Hey, Chinese economy has surpassed Italy, England, will soon surpass Germany and Japan and yes, even the USA. Asia rules over Europe. Everyone knows that Europe is in decline and Asia dominates, and no one can stop it, not even the USA, and that’s why everyone is so afraid; rightfully so, but inevitable.
I hope all this ranting and insult by the Italians is not indicative of all Italians, but I do realize that Italians think they have the best cars, and culture, but I beg to differ. The Ferrari looks good, but underneath it’s a piece of crap. Same for the Lamborghini (lambor guinea?). The Fiat isn’t even worth mentioning.

THere are just so many ways to make cars, and there are thousands of car models out there. I can look at several European, Japanese, Korean, American cars and see them copying each other all the time. But it’s easier to come to a Chinese car web site and make snide comments. However, if this keeps up, a lot of people who are really enthusiastic about Chinese cars will stop visiting, and I don’t think that the operators of this site would like that, as they are hoping to run a business. How would it look for companies that want to import Chinese cars into their countries to come on to this site and read these derogatory insinuations from Italians.

Chinese cars(Geely) are all Toyotas. China introduced many things to Japan(silk, writing, bhuddism),
but in the 8th century China was cut off from
Japan and Japan’s culture became distinctly
different. As for the Kimono, i’m sure it’s just
a coincidence, Japanese people did not dress
like this until well after the Han dynasty.
Japanese traditional architecture has a lot
of influence from that of China, but it is still
very unique, you don’t find Shoji screens and
fusuma, Tatami mats, or a Genkan (place where
you take off your shoes before you come in) in a Chinese house. What about Sushi, Sumo wrestling, Geishas, Hiragana and Katakana writing (though it’s derived from Kanji)? These are all very Japanese. Japanese culture was not
“copied” from the Chinese, it may have some
Chinese roots, but it’s very distinct and different. However, Geely did copy Toyota,
they stole their design without permission.
My question is for the writers of China Car Times - we all know these cars are copies of existing models by other manufacturers that actually take the time to produce original products from concept to completion - I’m not even going to join in this conversation against some Chinese manufactures who just copy other designs. However, why is it that you insist on stating things like “looks somewhat similar to the Scion XB”??? It is the Scion XB with minor styling tweaks! Why can’t you just be honest and say it looks like a Scion XB? You don’t even have to say “copy” anywhere - do you think people are idiots and can’t see the overwhelming similarities - or do you honestly think that designs like this just by chance look like an existing design? I honestly want to know. There is no hate mail here.

It is okay to say ‘it looks like’ as that is opinion, to say ‘it is a copy’ is not based on an established fact and can be challenged in a court of law by the offended parties.

As far as Asian dominance goes, well, as soon as the bird flu pandemic comes about, most of these countries are going to be stuck living in prehistoric times with decimated populations. I think you’re just wasting your time typing that up, as I already said, beating Western automaker is still a very far away thing, they are still in the progress of catching up. I will only say that Chinese automakers can catch up the West only when most of Chinese people drive Chinese made cars, but for the time being, the favourite cars of most Chinese people are still Western cars like VW, GM and Japanese Toyota. Period.
