Uh-oh! Chery A1 buyers may be in trouble

w_2895868087225.jpgThe Chery A1, the car that will be allegedly used by Dodge (Chery says it is, Dodge says it wont) as one of their economy vehicles was recently launched in certain cities around China but its launch was far from smooth. Big cities, for example, Beijing, which suffer from crippling air pollution have enacted city wide laws stipulating that only cars that are up to level 3 standard for new vehicle emissions. China Car Times is not sure if the Chinese standard is on par with the Euro standard, more research is needed on that. Chery A1 is currently at level 2, not the lowest level but not up to Beijing city’s standards either.

Unfortunate for Chery A1 buyers in big cities – China Car Times is currently unsure which cities are enforcing the level 3 or better emissions rule, but seeing as the original Chinese article said ‘big cities’ we can presume that Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, and Chongqing fall under those catergories. Nothing stopping potential A1 buyers in those cities going to over cities, registering their vehicles elsewhere and driving in a ‘big city’ though.
