Chery, based in the Wuhu wonderland of cheap Chinese cars, are planning to release three different versions (Tiggo, Tiggo3, Tiggo5, Tiggo6) of the popular Chery Tiggo SUV over the next few years. The Chery Tiggo (possibly inspired by the Toyota RAV4) has been out for a few years now and has been given a make over to tide it over until the new model Tiggos can be put into production. The Tiggo has now become the Tiggo3 (shown above) - its got a nicer front end, and its running of Cherys own ATECO engine, previous models used a Mitsubishi engine for power.

Tiggo 5

The Tiggo 5, which was unveiled at the 2006 Beijing Auto Show, was designed by an Italian design group. There is no exact date of when the Tiggo 5 will go on the market, but we can expect it to be before the end of the year. The Tiggo 5 is expected to be marketed as a sporty, fun, fashionable SUV. We have no word on pricing, or specs yet - but it will most probably be similar to the current Tiggo specs but with a higher price.
Tiggo 6

The Tiggo 6 is to be Cherys flagship SUV - and they are aiming high with it - Chery plans to put a Euro 5 engine into the Tiggo 6. The Tiggo 6 owes its cool, futuristic design to the Italian design house, Bertone. Spec wise, the Tiggo 6 will come with a 3.0 V6 engine, 2.0TCI or a 1.9TDI

The Italians are busy at Chery. Bertone designed the Tiggo 6 and Torino designed the Fulwin coupe. The original Tiggo was said to be an in-house design with the help of Lotus and MAE of Italy. Where does that leave the Tiggo 3 and 5. Are they also in-house designs? Perhaps by Chery’s own Jiajing Design house across the street? Or does Pininfarina play a part?
