Landwind Hua Feng - Fiesta Killer?

landwind_hua_feng.jpg

Has Ford being sharing technology with its Chang’an joint venture partner? Is the new Landwind Hua Feng set to become a Ford Fiesta beater in China? Superminis like the Fiesta, the Honda Fit, the QQ et all are all BIG sellers in China - popular with young early twenties buyers and older buyers alike. Landwind, (in)famous for its Isuzu SUV will begin formally selling the Hua Feng in August this year at the bargain price of 50 to 65,000rmb.

The Landwind Hua Feng will become with a 1.6 engine which is not to dissimilar from the Ford Fiesta. There are a few other cars available at this price, notably the Geely Freedom Vessel but nothing amazing.

Yes, the Huafeng uses legaly the Fiesta platform and technology. The Fiesta is out of production, since a couple of months. The Fiesta was never a success in China. The new Fiesta will be produced together with the Mazda 2 at the Nanjing facility of Chang’an Ford Mazda.

I think this is the Fenghua….
Between the many names used by Chang’an and Jiangling, it’s hard to keep the various winds (风 feng) straight.
Hello Erik: Correct me if I’m wrong but this looks like a first for the legal transfer of platform technology in China.
