Is Chang’an Changhe Suzuki ready to upgrade the WagonR?
The Wagon R has been out for donkeys years, and its getting a bit long in the tooth – even in China where the first generation WagonR sells a lot but is starting to lose ground to more funkier looking designs (We’re thinking of the new Chevrolet range here)
Rumors are starting to circulate that Chang’an Changhe Suzuki are getting ready to make the newer, more up to date version of the Suzuki WagonR to increase sales in China. We hope its true, the new generation WagonR looks quite good (pictured, left) There is even talk of a 4WD edition. China Car Times will keep watching this one with a keen interest.
update: Thanks to Erik for point out that the WagonR is made by Changhe Suzuki and not Chang’an Suzuki. We got our Changs mixed up.

Sorry, Ash, the Wagon R is made by Changhe Suzuki in Jiangxi, and not by Chang’an Suzuki in Chonqging.
Is this thing any good. I have been reading about the Japanese version and they sound like the old Chevys of America. Is the Chinese version up to standard and what are the technical differences. I was in the Suzuki dealership in China and even they discredited it as being Chinese built.
Thanks,
Tom
Tom,
The Suzuki dealer was trying to get you to buy something else
The Suzuki WagonR is actually a pretty popular car in China for people of all age spectrum, I’m sure if you bought one you wouldn’t be disappointed.
Chinese made Suzuki Wagon R+ is an excellent little runner and carrier – I have had one for nearly 4 years (1.4 l model) and this car has never betrayed me. It is surprisingly fast and dynamic, plus it is so versatile in terms of how much you can move in it. Fantastic value for money and quite adequate quality.
It will be a pity to see these cars go but I hope a newer version of Wagon is on the way to China.
