25 years on, the VW Santana can still kick modern ass!

The mark 2 VW Santana is still made in China. Its a real work horse, in use as taxis, police cars, government goon mobiles and a few must people still buy it for nostalgic needs, other than that we cant think why anyone would buy it, not when the Santana 2000 and even the Passat are available. The Santana will set you back 62,000rmb for the base 1.8 model, and goes all the way up to 82,880rmb for the the top of the range 1.8L station wagon version (we’re really shocked that is still in production, REALLY SHOCKED!)

Still further more shocking is that according to China Automotive Industrial Groups total sales figures for cars sold all over China in the month of May (2007) the Santana came out on top, with the VW Jetta in second position and the Buick Excelle trailing in third place. The Chinese really have a love for their old VW’s!
