Fiat gives Nanjing the inevitable Dear John letter

Dear Nanjing Autos,

I am leaving you because its obvious that you are seeing another car maker behind my back, you spend all your time with her and leave precious little time for me. Just look at what you give me – you take away all of the best things in our home and lavish them upon ‘her’. Ive found a new person who can love me, cherish me, and give me everything I need including lots of time, and somewhere where I can let my child, Alfa Romeo, grow in an exciting yet vibrant atmosphere.

I will always love you – best of luck with the future,

Truly yours,

Fiat Automobile.

P.S. Chery has a bigger factory than you, and he knows how to use it!

Well it, wasn’t quite put like that, but reading Chinese auto website, Autohome, this morning we found an article saying that Nanjing and Fiat are preparing for a divorce, agreements have been written, but ink has yet to be applied to paper. Fiat are getting ready to import several models into China, probably to show the masses that they can make some good looking cars rather than the drab Palios that Fiat/Nanjing are making right now, but are Chery ready to go through with the deal? We’ve been getting mixed messages about the deal for the past few months, its an odd courtship – first they are up for it, then they arent, then they are etc…..
