Jetta still jetting along in the Middle Kingdom
The trusty VW Jetta, the car that China refuses to let slip into motoring history is still going strong, past sales figures show it (it was the second best selling motor, behind the Santana, in May 2007) and this year, FAW the makers of the Jetta are hoping for an increase of 14% in Jetta sales.
VOLKSWAGEN AG will increase production of Jetta sedans in China by at least 14 percent because of rising demand for the country’s best-selling car. The auto maker’s Chinese partner will build 24,000 Jettas a year at a plant in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, Volkswagen said in an e-mailed statement yesterday.
The German auto maker’s first-half sales in the country rose 25 percent. FAW Volkswagen Automobile Co, Volkswagen’s venture with China FAW Group Corp, made 175,742 Jettas in Changchun City last year, said the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
