A FEMALE hostage held at knifepoint was rescued by police in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, yesterday after a standoff that lasted nearly three hours.

The woman, who was not identified, and a police officer were slightly injured during a struggle that ended the abduction.

Police identified the hostage taker as Lu Siwen, a 20-year-old Anhui Province native.

He robbed the young woman of 300 yuan (US$39.70) around 11am yesterday, abducted her at knifepoint and forced her into a parked car, police said. Lu then asked for a 100,000 yuan ransom, authorities said.
