Stretched Mondeo Coming to China?

Images are circulating on the internet of a stretched Mondeo and the rumor going with it is that the stretched Mondeo will be made especially for China. Its not the first time that a stretched car has come to China, previously Audi, BMW etc have all made stretched versions of certain models one that we can think of off the top of our heads is the Audi A6L. There was also the stretched Citroen Xsara, but that didn’t just look right for some reason. The reason for making stretched variants is not that the owners cant afford the larger version, but that many of the stretched versions are used as chauffeured driven cars, even the likes of the ‘lowly’ Mondeo and Xsara.

Whatever happened to this? Any more news?
I think this may have been just that – a rumor – the new Mondeo is already quite big (especially in the rear).
Well, it looks like I have to eat my words. I just checked Ford UK’s website, and the Chinese Mondeo is in fact 10mm longer than the already-quite-large UK version!
China 4-door sedan (L x W x H): 4854 x 1886 x 1495
UK 4-door sedan (L x W x H): 4844 x 1886 x 1500
Wheelbase for both versions are the same – 2850 mm – so that makes me wonder where that extra 10mm ended up!
It’s also interesting to note that the Chinese version is 5mm lower in height, but this could be due to suspension differences. I did read in a UK review that there’s an available Sport pack which includes a different suspension with a lowered ride height – maybe the Chinese version uses this same suspension.

I wouldn’t have thought 10mm is going to make much difference to something of this size! Intersting post though.
In this land of road congestion and tight parking, I would’ve preferred that they’d kept it smaller!
