Mercedes might sue to stop Shuanghuans Little Noble
It seems that since we last talked about Shuang Huans little mini car, its finally been granted an English name – we called it the Little Aristocrat, but it seems Shuang Huan have decided its to be called the Little Noble. China Car Times got up close and personal with the Little Aristocrat err Little Noble earlier this year, we think its a great car!
China Car Times can speak freely on its own website, (we think) and to be honest, the only thing that Shuang Huan have taken here is the concept of the car, and Swatch (original makers of the Smart) took the idea of making a super small mini car from the Japanese Kei car segment. The Shuang Huan is better in some areas than the Smart car is, and vice versa.
Mercedes seem a little ticked off that the German company, China Automobile Deutschland, plan to launch the Little Noble at the Frankfurt show, the proposed launch of the car must be a real stinger for Mercedes, as the alleged copy is going to go on the market in Germany (Mercedes own backyard) for a breath takingly low cost of 7,000 Euros. The managing director of China Automobile Deutschland,Klaus Schlössl, lashed back at Mercedes allegations of the Little Noble being a blatant copy by saying the Little Noble is only similar from certain angles.

I am sorry, but I do have to side with Mercedes-Benz on this one. Chinese car manufactures in general are producing too many blatant copies of foreign cars. They don’t just take vague styling clues from them, they make actual copies of them and slap on a new grill. If they ever intend on being major competitors in the world market, they need to come up with their own design language or legally obtain the rights to produce another manufactures product, like NAC has done with MG. I can say that no Chinese car manufacturer would stand for an original design of theirs to be copied and sold in another market if they were not being properly compensated for. It is time they grow up and start playing by the rules.
But this one is a much less blatent copy of the original than I have seen when compared to others where I would actually do more than a double take. Some copies are so “copied” you have to actually look closely to see the truth.
With this one it is more the idea that is copied…at least from what I can see in the pictures.
I was dreaming to have this Car I’ve Been Buy Noble Car last few days … but the Co. “Womko” Mr. Walid Tawfia in Egypt have a bad Bad staff for Sealing … and also after seal service so please I loved this car and I already work in place have 700 person and if they ask me about the car Ill say the car is fine but the Egyptian Co. is not good “Catch and Ran System”. Don’t forget I’m you feedback market.

Am thinking now a days to bye Noble car as I heard it is good, but actually am afraid for after selling service.As you know this car is so limited in Egypt and no further export will come. so I think I will face some difficult in getting the spear prates or may I wont find them at all.

Chineses cars manufacturers would learn to design, I’m fed up about Chinese clons!
The difference in China is the car companies are owned partially or wholly by the Chinese government (even joint ventures). So it’s suicide to copy another Chinese manufacturers design. Look at how SAIC and Nanjing are being pressed to work together by the government over the Roewe and MG cars. In essence, the same two cars are competing in the same market, which is clearly nonsensical. Chery and Brilliance have been doing well in coming up with their own designs, a clear “Chinese” design language is just going to take some time.

I think the commentary is getting more political than focusing on the Chinese automotive industry. First of all (from an Americans point of view), I don’t take sides in this argument but lets look at a little bit of history. In the United States, we stole and/or copied designs from our European counterparts to get where we’re at. For example, the Industrial Revolution, most of the advanced technology for our factories/machinery came from Europe (thanks to immigrants that smuggled the information). Fast forward to the not so distant past, the Japanese were well known for their knock offs and shoddy quality, the Koreans are still trying to eliminate that image. As an American, our domestically owned and produced vehicles are still viewed as either unreliable or unsafe. The Chinese will eventually export cars deemed “acceptable” but in all honesty though, I think people should get what they pay for. If somebody pays for a very inexpensive new car and dies in an accident, I say it’s Darwinism. If price is more important than safety, I say the individual has screwed up priorities, since there’s always the alternative of buying a safe used vehicle.
I have to agree with Mercedes Benz on this too. Any manufacturer (wherever they are based) should not be allowed to sell cars that are such blatant copies.
I think some of the comments on Chinese cars are a bit unkind. Yes, some of the cars are very poor but that is from a Western viewpoint and our expectations are different to the Chinese market.
As someone else mentioned, Japan started from a lowly position in terms of build quality and now look where they are.
Chinese manufacturers will only get better not worse – in my experience, they are working hard and learning very quickly.
Copying is inevitable in the pattern of an emerging economy.

If you ever find yourself in China during Chinese new year, China Car times officially advises to visit the west of the country, i.e. Xijiang, where there is no fireworks that keep you up all night, for two weeks

If anyone ever invades Shanghai the locals can just let off some fireworks and scare the (can’t repeat feeling here)off of them….. still, the guy the next morning (8am ish) lighting off the last of his fireworks was a more interesting site..he must be a rebel.
Little noble is a start, if they don’t get design inspiration from somewhere then everything will look like a 1970′s Peugeot.
Its not only the fireworks, its everyones car alarms going off as a result of WW3 breaking out everynight.

In view of the mess Daimler-Chrysler was in caused by their hopeless manager Schrempp over the last 8 years or so its really amazing the are still plugging away with the huge loss making Smart!
Daimleer-Benz AG was once a proud blue chip company until its ill fated merger or was it take over of Chrysler, a company even the really highly talented and successful Lee Iaccoca could only get on track for a short time!
The Stuttgarter Whiz Kids now even had to buy their name Daimler back from the Ford Motor Company! Thats progress – was this due to stubborness in not wanting to go back to the old title Daimler-Benz AG?
Daimler AG as its called now would be well advised to forget any expensive law suits with fancy lawyers and concentrate on building quality automobiles.
It would be better for Daimler AG if they could make some sort of deal with Shuang Huan for them to slowly take over Smart manufacturing in possibly a joint venture in China!
Bad then for lawyers but good for shareholders?
And then Daimler AG can stop manufacturing Smart in Germany! That would save their shareholders millions of Euros and allow them to focus/concentrate on what they are better at – making quality full size automobiles.

Since the birth of mr Ford very little has been done by these profit suckers to make the cars more ‘green’ and technologically friendly.

Heaven knows why Mercedes does not complain about the several clones that Lexus does with their cars…
probably because lexus want the same kind of money for their copies and Hans Fritz figured it wouldnt sell much. But when u can have a chinese made mercedes for next to peanuts then obviously Hans will be worried.
If u copy european, USA design in China – E & USA start talk of copyright – and if your country is not democratic they talk of democracy and Human rights – and if you are democratic country and does not watch their interest they will get their interest by bringing Dictator into country -they talk Human right when they have interest otherwise they kill people like palestine and Kashmiri, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hmmmm, while we are talking about copying stuff we should note that China invented gunpowder, the printing press, the compass, football, seismoscope, a big wall, paper, gongfu and Baijiu (aka Rocket fuel/personal heating device/pacifier/aggressor and a great way to sort the men from the boys).
I think we should make all other countries who have been using and copying these goods for the past few hundred years pay royalties to the Chinese government and apologise for stealing their inventions for their own personal gain.
If not maybe we should GET BACK ON THE SUBJECT AND TALK ABOUT CARS. What relevance Little Noble has in relation to other world affairs is beyond me…..
