Dongfeng Monster, on the market next month

So its not really called the monster, but hell, it certainly looks like one.

We always wondered when we say this car at the Beijing Auto Show in 2006 if they would ever release this car, and it seems that Dongfeng have reasonably high hopes for this car.

This car was designed by Dongfeng themselves and it … urm.. shows. China Car Times doesnt have any specifics on the car, other than its pretty ugly and that Dongfeng are planing on selling 2000 of the cars in the Japanese market next year. The oddest thing about the Dongfeng coupe is the boot of the car that seems to be able to raise and lower itself to give the driver more boot space should he need it.

The Dongfeng coupe comes complete with tiny 15inch wheels and odd looking indicator lights down the side of the front wings:

We cant wait for this one to hit the market this month, oh no – we put the wrong ending sentence in this blog post, no, we dont want this to hit anything other than a brick wall.

Dear God….I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. Maybe if they do a lettering system it can be called the Dongfeng P.O.S. or maybe the Dongfeng Crazy Driver….since you’d have to be crazy to drive one. I’m sure it’ll look lovely next to the Crazy Soldier.

the designer needs to be sacked, and the directors @ DF need to be sacked for unleashing the fugly mangle of steel upon us!

hi Ash, will this car be made in Rongcheng???

  4. avatar Nick in Shanghai says:

Well at least nobody will copy that design.

  5. avatar I_Hate_China says:

Will Hyundai sue Dongfeng for copying its second gen Tiburon then performing an ugly plastic surgery to make it look slightly different?

    Ewwwwwwwww

lol lol copying Hyundai second gen tiburon ?? Laughable, tell me which bit does it look like Tiburon ?? don’t come here to troll ? To I_Hate_China, you went from China car forums to troll, praise korean cars saying Chinese carmakers copy Korean Hyundai then got banned then you went to autoblog, badmouthing China copying Hyundai, now you are here on Chinacartimes again saying Hyundai this Hyundai that, Chinese carmakers copy Hyundai. Ok I know you are a Korean Nationalist but tbh there is no need for you to do these desperate things going to many different sites to spread Hyundai propaganda. OK if Hyundai can prove that this is the copy of Hyundai Tiburon, then hyundai can feel free to sue, I don’t think Dongfend even mind and they will be very happy to serve Hyundai in court :)

  8. avatar Mememe says:

Btw, your name already says a lot about your perception for China let alone their car industry

  9. Comment by Mememe : lol lol copying Hyundai second gen tiburon ??

Yes, that first picture reminds me to Hyundai Tiburon/Coupe too!

(I think the BYD F8 is better-looking than this!)

  10. avatar Mememe says:

ok then can someone just post the pics of Hyundai Tiburon here please ? Because I did look at the pics of Hyundai Tiburon and I am sorry I cannot see any similarities between them. Maybe I was looking at the wrong pics or my judgements is not correct, then can someone please posts the pics here and we will leave it to other commentators to judge it. I do not know how to post pics so sry I cannot do this :)

    To Love krittaya

yes I also looked at the pics of Hyundai Coupe on the net, and the first pic of that dongfeng mainly shows the rear. Therefore I took a very careful look at the rear of Coupe and Tiburon and suprisingly, I cannot spot any similarities but what you said is telling different story, so someone might just also post the pics of Hyundai coupe and leave it so people can see who is right and who is wrong

  12. avatar Mememe says:

some people here might say that I am just blindly defend Chinese automakers, therefore I need to say this , if Dongfeng really copied Hyundai, I would be very happy to see Hyundai sue them, just like the case of shanghuang Little noble, indeed it does look like smartfortwo and they deserve to be sued by dyslerdaimler or BMW, no doubts about this. if any chinese cars indeed look like another foreign made car then I will definitely call it a copy. But in this case, this is a very bad accusation based on the look of both Dongfeng and Tiburon/coupe.They indeed have nothing in common

Here’s the front of the vehicle: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/90/2nd_Hyundai_Tiburon.jpg/800px-2nd_Hyundai_Tiburon.jpg

    Here’s the rear:

Me thinks theres a bit of influence from the second gen Tiburon/Coupé.

  14. avatar Nick in Shanghai says:

The rear quarter panel and side glass show the influence.

The sum total is a pure abomination. It’s almost as if they are trying to disguise the fact that something else lurks underneath. It is hideous…….ugly with ugly added on for good measure.

    Nick in Shanghai.

It looks like the FIRST generation Tiburon, very much so,
    not the second one
