no one asked what you think in America lol BTW I am from California and if this hapend no one would call them an asshole but the owner of the hummer would be going to jail for shooting a lot of people lol cause thats what really happens. anywas I went to http://www.auto-aoli.com s shop and bought my carbon fiber hood and it will take them 3 days to have it delivered to their shop and then ill go down to install it and ill let you guys know how it goes. also i asked them some other stuff like the Nissan Livina has reas drum breaks and they said they could use the Tiida rear breaks to convert it for me and also they said they could make a proper body kit for me and not a lip kit which is so common here in Guangzhou right now> its a cool shop they are a little expensive considering were in china lol but they seem like cool people and if you dont speak chinese you will need to take someone with you who does because they dont speak much english. the carbon fiber hood is 1,800rmb its just a stock hood copy the hood with a scoop is a little more than 2,000rmb and i havent got a price for the break conversion oh and you can get a nice HKS muffler for 3,500rmb and a carbon fiber wing for 850rmb instead of the genaric fiberglass wing okay well ill hit you up later with more details

my Livina is Black and the carbon fiber hood iam getting is a stock copy. i dont like the real flashy hoods. and a supercharger wont blow the engine they are much safer for the car compared to turbos and the 1.6l DOHC is sick totally tuneable its the same motor thats in the TIIDA that china uses to race and thoes are sick

Where are you finding these? Most of the car mods seem to coming out of Guandong!

I really like the Livina, I think its a great little car and its surprisingly fast from 0-80 for such a small car, although it weighs practically nothing and has a 1.6 engine.

I need to get a license, no idea of the procedure yet. It’s one of those things I’ll get around too (have to if I want a car). Seeing I’m spoilt by getting picked up and dropped off for work there hasn’t been an urgent need yet. Planning to move and get a car around the spring festival so better get onto it.

I remember a place in Shanghai that had a driving course in a kind of driving park. It was beside an RC car track. No use to me now though living in Guangzhou.

I learned to drive here after coming from the UK – is what partly a bet from the wife, and partly a language test, and another part was dumb enough to do it.

It took me four months.

Im going to write about it eventually, it was much much much harder than the UK’s learning to drive system, and not just because of the language barrier. Its just…. much more intense training.

From my limited knowledge I believe the Sonatas here are only 2L 4s. Similar to everything else in the same range. At 180,000rmb there are plenty of options, I think even a base Mondeo is around that price.

Most of the cars here seem to be slightly watered down versions of what western countries get so to get any sort of HP out of one will require a bit of tweaking. Most modified cars I have seen are all aesthetic mods, not performance orientated but that should change more when more of the little princes return from overseas after getting used to Jap imports in NZ,AU etc…. look for a rise in QQ mods and an even bigger rise in the road toll.

I guess it depends on budget and what size vehicle you are after. If your heart is set on real power then pick up a used Lexus like the one the taxi drivers dealt too for roughly 60-100,000 RMB and freshen it up. The engine should have hardly been thrashed but maybe have high KMs. Lextreme.com has a ton of info on building one of these into a fire snorting beast with a bit of luxury of course.

The biggest problem you will face modifying anything here is finding someone to do it properly. I think in the major cities it will be ok though, just do your homework before deciding on who will rip your engine apart.

I’m a poor teacher so my first car here is likely to be a Xiali or a QQ in which the first mod will be a roll cage…. lol

well another idea, here the hyundai sonata has a 176kw v6 engine which u can turbo charge. there are some nice NF elite kits and pipes for it,and its cheap. Does the China modelhave the same engine? I presume the NF sonata is available in China for around 180,000rmb?

Johnson, it would depend where you are and the “Guanxi”(magic word that although not always essential) you have. I guess it would be easier to import a GTO rather than the R1 because I’m pretty sure anything over 250cc is supposed to be banned….. In some cities bikes are banned altogether or difficult to get plates for.
I was talking about the older Royaum, the newer one (Parked up someones Avenue) just doesn’t seem right. The old one has been here since about 05 so there should be a few slightly cheaper second hand ones available now. I’m not a Holden man myself but there is a serious lack of anything that sounds like an 8 here…. everything is too muffled except for maybe the Mazda 6s on which thread we have taken over.

hahaha that was a nice idea but the thing is i got a feeling the new Royaum (or rather the Park Avenue since the Zeta platform change) will be too expensive since its targeted at a different market. It far more expensive that the a normal commodore, and worst yet, theres is not kits for statesmen. The only logical thing i can come up with is importing a Pontiac GTO stateside. but im loosing hope, seems like its impossible to get some decent muscle in China, and as a mate of mine said, y do u need it? u’ll be stuck in jams most of the time, and i have to agree with him…maybe a i should just bring my R1. is there any rules preventing sports bikes???

My suggestion is to buy a Royaum. Its a Holden statesman but with the V6 in it. You can get the HSV kits from home and pimp it up a bit.. for power maybe turbo it with again, kits from home or rip an LS1 out of a V8 commodore and chuck that in. Nice open pipes should scare the ******* out of all the pedestrians, and anyone else who cuts you off.

I can only hope next year when the bulk of China’s WTO tariff agreements kick into force the prices will come down significantly. Im hoping to work in CHina as an ‘expert’ and hence bringing my own car (but cant due to this LHD/RHD issue), since I cant find any car i’d realistically want in China ie. no real ‘sports’ car with reasonable muscle in China?? can some 1 shed some light on this myth?
