There is more leg room in the Chery QQ - Looking at the Dongfeng Hummer

The Dongfeng Hummer civilian edition was announced the other week, and we’ve finally got hold of some photos of the unwieldy road beast. It seems there isnt much leg room in the Dongfeng, and also the quality is, lacking, to say the least. This vehicle may well be classed as a ‘truck’ in military terms, but this is the civilian edition and the quality is quite poor to say the least!

The dash is big, and spacey with lots of dials, woo!

The rear cargo area looks nice enough, are those seats or just raised areas? The spare wheel over the back window looks like it might hinder reversing, but who needs to reverse in a vehicle like this?
rear.jpg

Leg room looks a little, hindered, and the quality of that plastic over the metal looks like it was nibbled to shape by an elderly beaver.

Theres plenty of space between the two rear passenger seats:

You spend several 100 thousand RMB on a car that can only take 4 people? I dont understand the point of this vehicle so far:

Legroom Legroom, where are you?
legroom.jpg

This is just a regular skinny Chinese guy, imagine a bigger dude in there. What would happen to his knees in an impact?
legroom.jpg

Want to adjust your seat? Note the quality, we suspect the Dongfeng beaver has been nibbling at the rubber as well.

The passenger doesnt fair too well in the legroom department, but it seems the driver is slightly better off

The driving position seems fairly relaxed:

The cab is super wide and resembles something from Han Solos Millennium Falcon then an automobile

The gear shifters:

So how much does this 6.5litre 197BHP monster cost? 880,000rmb, thats not a lot of car for a lot of money, for comparison, you can get the smaller, nicely done Hummer H3 for 750,000rmb, however a H2 is 1.17 million RMB so perhaps the Dongfeng Hummer is ok for the job? Its not very nicely done in places, but this car is essentially a tool that will be aimed at various civilian government agencies that need to get to remote places and carry a team plus equipment.

It could well be after the Mazda 6 incident. Then again, it may not have the power to drive over them. Interesting to see what engine it has in it and the torque figures. They could have at least ripped off the Hemi. got some engine ideas off the 300C.

316 BHP from a 6L V8 engine, they can do alot better.

More than likely they will be driven by the people with the least respect for any rules…. The military.

Soccermom…. have to teach that word to the Chinese…lol

back to topic, they seriously need to pimp up this ride abit more. I can’t imagine why they would not hire a chop shop in LA for some ideas. Just imagine a pimped dongfeng with hydrolics and a decent interior

I found this while wandering through sites aimlessly today .. http://www.gxauto.net/test/ShowArticle.asp?ArticleID=18145
I wonder if I can borrow it for Beijing 2008. The build quality is much much better than the first Chinese hummer copy.

Funny thing, I saw one of these drive past me on Thursday. Looks pretty good and not out of of place beside the maui and britz ones back home.

anyway i love that 4wd/caravan. Its a popular concept here, but to see it in China is funny. Pretty well intergrated i must say.

Take one part ancient Isuzu chassis with a dash of a Nissan Frontiers/Navara’s front, mix well in blender with extra secret ingredients and you get a caravan. I wonder how much lead and asbestos is in that thing.
