USA 0 - China 2. China gets the better looking car, again.
Previously Buick Lacrosse lovers became quite upset when they realized their friends in China were getting a better looking motor, and now it seems to the turn of the Honda Odyssey.
China Car Times was just reading good old Autoblog, especially an article about the 2008 Honda Odyssey being released onto the market, our first reaction was just ‘wow’, what an ugly vehicle! The Chinese edition of the Honda Odyssey is quite a slick looking 7 seater station wagon with a beautiful interior (at least on the top end model) and a ride so smooth yet powerful it will make your mouth water. The American model looks like a dull run of the mill soccer mom MPV, the Chinese edition looks like it means BUSINESS!

The US Odyssey actually has more power with it being a 3.5 V6 motor, the Chinese one is a smaller 2.4 engine giving 161BHP.

The Odyssey in China has been a run away success for Honda especially this latest edition, China Car Times would estimate that it sells more than the Honda Accord.
What do China Car Times readers think, is the American one better looking or the Chinese one? You can see more of the American version of the Odyssey here on Autoblog.

C’mon Ash, you’re comparing apples to oranges. The Chinese Odyssey is the same as the Japanese Odyssey, it’s not the same as the American version (think Euro Honda Civic vs. US Honda Civic). The sizes are completely different, the Euro Accord is not the same as the American Accord either. Yes, styling wise, the U.S. Odyssey is not attractive but it’s not the same platform either. If you notice, the Chinese version has regular rear doors while the “yank” version has rear sliding doors. The LaCrosse is the same exact platform but different sheetmetal and the Chinese got it right. This is a different animal all together mein freund.
Yep, you’re right, but the CN version is 169% better looking!
The American version looks more like a Buick GL8 type vehicle though.
I agree the JDM Odyssey looks better….Hopefully you get to try an Enslave…err Enclave soon. It’s actually supposed to be quite good. I wonder if it will have enough chrome/fake wood to appeal to the Chinese though.
I like the American…
U.S. version of the Odyssey is an exisiting style, being around for years. It’s a more strict but gentleman look. However, the 2008 Chinese version of Odyssey is such a mud - too many BMW influences! The rear-end is a so copied Bimmer 7-series; the front looks like an Acura sedan and the end of roof line looks like an old Volvo 700 series stationwagon. Even the main stay recent Honda Accords shared the same fate. The past two Accord designs got many obvious harsh lines. The new 2008 Accord looks a lot more softer but it’s definitely a BMW 5-series copy, albeit tastefully copied. Is Honda hitting a snag in its design human capitals?
The american version is horrible compared to the japanese design, the american version is just the average looking cars for the american taste, like an old Buick, or Dodge caravan. This is the typical family car for the bad taste average american.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I liked this version of the Odyssey. I didn’t know it was the “asian” version and thought we might get one once we move home.
My wife thinks it looks terrible and wouldn’t even consider it.
I stick with the american odissey
It might not look so good, but with the american honda doing 244HP versus 161HP of the chinese one, what’s to compare??
The asian odissey might even look better, but from the american’s rearview mirror only.
odyssey is so good, but it’s to long
