Fords Nanjing Factory to become export center?

Ford are mulling over the idea of making its cars in its brand spanking new Nanjing based factory and then exporting them to the USA and EU markets. The factory which opened on Monday this week is to begin producing the Mazda 2 and the Ford Fiesta. Ford boss, Alan Mulally, was in Nanjing this week to open his new factory and found the time for an interview with state news agency, Xinhua, where he said the new Ford Verve (pictured) will be made in China for export to other markets.

The Nanjing factory can churn out 160,000 cars per year and will be using Mazda technology. With the new Nanjing factory Chang’an Ford can make 410,000 vehicles per year in China. The factory will no doubt go along way in helping Mazda realize their goal of selling 300,000 cars in China this year, the Mazda 2 is expected to go on the market early next year to go up against the Peugeot 206 and the Citroen C2 with a price of around 80-100,000rmb.

If they will launch the Mazda 2 to compete in that segment, that means they wont make the Ford Verve for the Chinese market? That would be a real pity, this new Ford its amazing, everywhere you look at this car is 100% super cool, I hope we can have this car available soon here in China.
