From reading internet news reports we have learned that Chongqing traffic police are going to be armed with machine guns after 9pm whilst they carry out their duties (mainly sleeping in the car stopping drunk drivers and sorting out accidents)
Currently only the Peoples Armed Police (known as Wu Jing) are allowed to carry guns. The creation of the Wu Jing was a comprimise between the Police Force who wanted the police to have weapons and the Peoples Liberation Army who ultimately have any say over the policing of the country, the PLA also dont really want guns in anybody elses hands. The PLA caved in to police demands and created the Wu Jing department, Wu Jing falls under PLA supervision (they carry out tasks such as guarding embassies, diplomats, Chinese senators, and places of extreme importance)
A poll on the Chinese portal site, sina.com, showed that most people were against the idea of the traffic police having automatic weapons:
1. Dont Support it!
2. Support it!
3. What ever.
Machine guns sound great, but Chongqing police are undergoing training in how to use the crossbow:
The crossbow men of Chongqing will be out looking for drivers who have been drinking, those without driving licenses and vehicles carrying heavy loads. Watch out boys, you might just get an arrow through your head.
I know I said I would like to see more strict and tough traffic police, but this is way out the line and VERY WILD, what are they going to do, put an arrow thru your chest if you are speeding? I don’t know who in the government came up with this idea but that person is an animal, is like instead of improve we (they) are going backwards.
That is a horrible idea, and the genius who thought that would be good is f***** animal!
They’ll get you as you speed towards them from 200 yards away, first warning is an arrow through the passenger head rest, and if you dont decrease your speed, the second shot will be through your heart!

I think you’re perception of China is very much misguided in terms of Western Culture. To understand China, you must understand it from its perspective as being independent from a Euro-centric point of view. Order is kept by force, that is a trait of Chinese civilisation for milleniums, it works in China and China needs it for the time being. Given the vast amount of ppl, and sometimes the ppl’s blatent disreagard for the law, force in terms of heavy handed tactics are very much condoned not to mention practiced.
No offence but, u dont understand china because precisely u dont know enough about China, and the social challenges in China. What you deem wild and tough, is in fact firm and neccessary. Every culture has its own tolerance level for the administaration of justice, in China, ppl just have to accept that for the time being, its much higher than it is in Europe or the US. In fact, what you deem to be Human Rights are just an conception of the legal system from which you come. Im sure u’re not refering the the UN’s Universal Human Rights which for one does not preclude the use of the death penalty and armed police as China in this case presents. Yes, in certain aspects China’s human records haven’t been good, but look at it this way, its a developing country, its has a massive population to contain, its trying to develop its legal system, so obviously there needs to be compromises. Personal rights just happen to be expendable to some degree at this time. But you must recognise that China is alot more liberal and encompass alot more freedoms and rights than the past, it is progressing. For all the criticisms ppl have about CHina’s human rights record, they need to keep in mind the fact that through it, it has lower per capita crime or homocide rate than the US. And if human rights are so fundamentally valuable then why too does the US breach it in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba? Its Torture cells in Iraq and Europe? Why do American states have too the death penalty? Institutionalised abuses of rights in the US is both rampant and apparant, yet less light is focused on them, why? Now that will make a good topic for a discussion paper.
If you are still interested in Human Rights and China, go to the UN site and read the Universal Decleration of Human Rights. China is a signatory and you’ll find that its has provisions in its law to meet all the fundamental requirements. In practice it may still fall short, but given time, i think it will get there.
Though I think ur criticism of China is valid, I think theres alot more you neglect in understanding why it is so.

JOHNSON Thanks a lot for the aclaratory, you are right indeed, we must reckon that China is not a country or a society easy to understand. Im not coming from a paradise either, as you may know right now south america its a complete mess in every aspect, but I have seen things here in China that seem taken from a bizare fiction movie. But I also like this country, I wish I could do something to fix things here, starting from little problems such as the lack of conscience of the people, but I also understand that is not easy specially in a country with such an enormous population. You are right maybe I need to learn and understand more, I really try to be more open minded, but believe me is really hard.

How do you tell the difference between a driver who has been drinking and most of the other drivers in Chongqing? I mean, if you see the driving there you’d swear nearly every driver was drunk.
Jajajaja well there you are right Dog tucker, there are way too many irresponsible drivers out there, I almost got hit many times. But the idea of arrows flying around… I don’t know, I think that is for cavemen or wild natives in the amazon. There are a lot of better and modern ways to stop and punish bad drivers.
I think a chinese police with arrows is as much dangerous as a monkey playing with razors in an elevator. NOT COOL AT ALL!

Just driving home and took a right turn up a small unused road that is pitch black at night, flipped on the high beams and saw a taxi drivers pasty buttocks had partitioned in such a way that his starfish was highly visible.
The dirty bugger was taking a pooh at the side of the road crouched behind his cab. Taking a pee, I can understand, taking a pooh is a bit far. I flipped the high beams off and continued driving in the dark, it was mentally safer.
LOL…. I bet he didn’t use any toilet paper or wash his hands as well…..

Ash, what a target!! Imagine an arrow buried deeeply in his starfish! In fact the last time I was In Qingdao I watched a father take down his daughters pants and let her crap on the footpath - not on the grass or amongst the bushes next to the path. Within seconds of this there was poop being spread along the footpath and god knows where else by the locals, This was on Hong Kong Lu right outside Jusco!!! I went to the father and explained in my best Putonghua that maybe he should clean what was left of it up and why didnt he take her to the grass etc- he explained that she needed to go then and there!!God help Qingdao in the Olympics if the locals keep doing this!! Should help the image.Its the old ‘no consequences for actions taken’ syndrom that pervades here - even in the auto industry!
I see that kind of things EVERY SINGLE DAY and is really disgusting and frustrating how nobody seem to care about this happening, at all. Why people behave that way, I just don’t understand, may be Im not enough open minded.
The things is when I talk to chinese people about this thing they also hate the situation but nobody say a word when they see this happening in the street, nobody complains. If everyone around there I mean EVERYONE do the same as Dog tucker and complain to this man he would probably feel a little bit of shame. People here seriously need to start talking!

A few summary roadside executions is just what China needs to enforce it’s traffice rules. That’ll teach you not to obey the red light or give way to the pedestrian! Just looks at the questions for the driver’s license and you’ll see the rules are pretty normal and sane. Does that mean no one driving has actually taken the test?

Why not compromise between all much firepower and no firepower and give them tasers? Crossbows seem too bulky and troublesome.
