MGTF Pricing announced – higher than expected.

mgtf front MGTF Pricing announced higher than expected.According to the Chinese press, NAC MG’s two seater sports coupe, the MGTF was supposed to go on the market earlier this month but delays have set back the launch. Pricing however, has been announced and it seems to be a rather rich 40,000USD.

The previously launched MG7 came in at a bargain 170,000 to the top end 250,000rmb model but the MGTF doesnt seem to be following the low pricing that the MG7 is.

Essentially, the MGTF is a one of a kind sports car in China there are no other Chinese made 2 seater coupes – the only other choice you have in China is something from the Mercedes stable. NAC MG can pretty much charge what they want for the MGTF in China, but what about other countries, such as the UK, where the MGTF is already old hat compared to its competitors (namely the Mazda MX5) Will NAC MG push for a $40,000USD (20,000GBP) price tag for the British and European markets?

    Brum,

Ive heard two price ranges since posting this, 200,000rmb to 300,000rmb.

    200,000rmb is still 13k GBP

300,000rmb is 20k (there abouts) but what kind of spec options could they offer in between each model to justify a 100k price difference.

I think 12995 GBP would be the current car’s natural price point in the UK. Any higher than that, irrespective of spec, and it’s doomed. MG is a value brand now, nothing more. Any pretentions to grandeur will kill the marque off once and for all.

Must be reason for not be another 2 seats coupe in the chinese market, maybe its pretty obvious the chinese prefer the practicity over the fanciness. Lets face it, this kind of 2 seats coupe are very pricy, fancies and not too practical. Honda had a very succesful example, the CR-X, another example is the Mazda Miata, there must be a reason why we dont se this cars here in china, of course this cars are much older than the MGTF but the point is clear, if MG want to sell more of this model they have to come up with a better offer, a much better offer!

I was under the impression that the Mazda 2 seater was coming to China. They did unveil one a year ago in Beijing!

Any estimate of how much could cost that Mazda 2 seater? There is space in any market for this kind of car, I mean this car are very sexy and beautiful, not practicla at all but very desireable. But in this particular market I think you have to come up with a very good price.

Typical, fleece the locals that think they are getting somthing new, special and exotic!! Its in the same syndrome as Ive mentioned before ‘trying to make honey out of dog shit’ But sadly a few of the unsuspecting locals will pay silly money for a silly car as we see all too often here-its the immaturity of a growing market and the naivety of the buyers with probably too much cash and not enough clues. As for foreign markets look at the options at that sort of money and you dont have to be very bright to see how far better those options are for you hard earned cash!
