8 October 2007 One Comment

Chinese state news agency, Xinhua, has announced that China has 120 million privately owned vehicles on the road today. According to Xinhua, 61. 25% of the total number of vehicles in use in China are privately owned, the other 38.75% being state owned vehicles, (that number alone is a staggering number of cars owned by the govt!)

The statistics come from Chinas ‘Traffic Administration of Ministry of Public Security’ a lengthy title I’m sure you’ll agree, the Traffic Admin Ministry also said China has 160 million registered drivers of automobiles (so thats C1 and C2 licences). Drivers aged 26-35 account for 37.88% of total Chinese motor vehicle drivers and drivers aged 36-50 account for 40.67% of the total number.

The stat I would like to see is not the age of the drivers, but rather a breakdown of the length of time these drivers have had licences. They didn’t all get them when they were 16 years old, ya know!?!:)
