MG3 and the MG3 Crossover – New metal that you’ve seen before

The MG3 is basically the MGZS or the Rover 25 and the MG3 Crossover is the Rover Streetwise, BUT looking all shiny and new these old Rovers/MG’s dont half look bad.

MG3 Crossover
The world has gone crossover mad in the past few years, every marque has knocked out a crossover model, which helps extend that models life a little bit more and helps the public think they are getting a SUV like normal vehicle. Customer thinks he/she is doing the earth a favor and the manufacturer gets another two years worth of sales out of an older model, everyones a winner so they say. Rover was probably one of the first manufacturers to pioneer the crossover idea, taking a regular family car giving it higher suspension and a chunkier body. Nanjing MG are carrying on that idea with this model.

MG3 ZR Sports Model
The MG ZR lives again, thanks to Nanjing MG!

Has the MG3 been given a new set of front and rear lights and a new bumper for China? MG folks who are in the know, let us know in the comment box!

For those that dont want the MG3 ZR or the MG3 Crossover, you can put your slippers and cardigans on for the MG3
MG Interiors
China Car Times is unsure if the MG3 interiors will be the same across the range, but here is one example of an MG3 interior:

MG3 Other Bits
It seems the MG3 has been given new wing mirrors with indicators on them.

Alloys:
Chinese motoring press are saying that the 3 door version of the MGZR wont be made for the Chinese market as there is no real demand for 3 door vehicles in China. The MG3 is expected to come with a 1.4 and 1.8 engine, the 1.4 will be paired with a manual gear box and the 1.8 engine the same. One model, the MG3 SE will come with a 1.8 engine mated with a CVT gear box. The Chinese press also go on to say the MGZR will appeal to younger drivers in China, but it is sorely underpowered with the 1.4 engine which only really makes it good for inner city driving rather than long haul highway jaunts.
Nanjing MG is putting the MG3 up against the Polo, Fit/Jazz etc in the small economical car section in the Chines market. Will an older car do well against modern incarnations in China? We believe they will.
What do our British and European readers think of the MG3 range?

im well happy to see the mg zr cming back out.
im the owner of 51 plate 3dr, but i just hope they build them to last unlike many of the previous mg zr’s which looked great but fell apart all too easy for my liking. head gaskets being a major problem.
if this is sorted i will be getting my hands on a new mg3 in radiant red…AV IT!!
liam from Cardiff, south wales.
It’s not MG ZS but MG ZR!!! Rover 25 = MG ZR / Rover 45 = MG ZS
rover cok güzel araba biz bu arabayı seviyoruz lütfen klitedenh ödün vemeyin
They’ve actually updated the K-Series with a much more reliable head gasket, and better power turnover. Renamed the N-Series!
Other than the crossover, these don’t look like being bad cars to come out of China! Shame Britain still doesn’t own the MG badge! Nothing against China, but naturally if another country makes a car with someone else’s badge, the car potentially loses the Culture and feel!
I really hope this car will become a hit!
(Own a mk1 MG ZR myself!)
I agree with most people above. The ZR is based on the old rover 200, although it is a good chassis its too out of date, also the k series, its kind of like when are they ever going to move on. The rover 200 was a nice car 10 years ago but these new MG’s have to compete with huge car manufactures. Take a look at the Germans, some of their cars would blow you away, in fact most manufactureres have kicked up a notch. I find it hard to admit but even hyundai, kia cars aern’t actually too bad now
It just seems what MG china are doing now is tidying up what MG UK have left behind. Maybe in the next few years we will see some real cars being produced.
The MG name has been juggled about too much, what was originally a pure british company has now went half way across the world, to the chinese.
I dont want to see the MG brand dying out, but they need a huge turn around and alot of money pumped into it, and not to be picking up where MG-Rover left off. They will head the same way as MG-Rover did.
please bring out the mg3 zr in UK!!! by the way i think your wasting time with the mg3 crossover, its not looking good!!! i think theres bigger market for the ZR in UK!!
so please!
I think the ZR has been out in the UK for quite some time now…..
Has anyone here driven any of the Chinese-made MG or Roewe models?
I didn’t even bother to when I was car shopping this past summer – minor teaks to a 10 year old design of a failed foreign make is not my idea of a “new car”. It seems they’re selling here solely on their “British heritage”. Though I’ll admit they’d be at the top of my list of domestic brands.
Had a look at the MG3 SW for the wife – the interior plastics are truly bad, they werent great to start with when Rover made it, but NAC MG have somehow managed to make them out brittle butterfly wings.
The 750 V6 is very nice. I wish there was a sports version!
Is the 750 V6 still sold here? I though it was taken off the market as it doesn’t meet the latest emissions standards…
That said, I do miss driving a car with a smooth and nice sounding V6.
It cannot be such a bad car, altough it cannot be a wrealy god car.
Face facts,
It’s time the MG Marque died a peacful death instead of being bastardised by Nanjing, who lets face it, wouldn’t know what a British sports car was if it came and sat on their head. I LOVE the MG marque, right from the midget to the SVR. MG is “British Layland” and in the hands of any other company it just won’t work.
The streetwise is NOT an MG – sticking an MG badge on that car makes NO sense what so ever. And, the MG6 looks like a polished turd to be honest.
Let MG die, and enter the history books as one of the greats.
A polished soft turd at that. Cheap poorly fitted plasticky shyte boxes!
I HAVE A ROVER 25 IN WHITE AN LOVES HIM 2 BITS BUT THIS 1 REALY BETS HIM WOULD LV 2 HAVE 1 OF THESE ROVER
