Chery to make those bullet proof vehicles for South Africa

According to the sensationalist media we read, South Africa is a crime ridden country, hence they need Cherys help! Last year Chery began production of cheap bullet proof vehicles, at the time China Car Times was rather concerned, after all, the words ‘cheap’ and ‘bullet proof’ rarely go together, asides from in negatively worded sentences. However it seems Chery have tapped a niche market in various developing countries where lower ranks of tinpot dictatorships are in need of some protection from the people they serve. Cherys bullet proof models have been selling well in Syria, and Brazil, and now plan on cracking the South African market.

In their bullet proof line up, Chery have the Tiggo SUV, and the Chery Oriental Son.

ah…a nice niche market indeed…should sell well in Irag and Palestine…

may i suggest a niche for Chery should they decide to come to Aus…here it is..

    ‘bird-shit proof paint’

that’ll be the niche around here…xD

Could you imagine a Chery built for Aus… If they made them there and produced a V8 they could enter the V8 Supercars…. I see it now, the red and blue camps would be laughing so hard the Chery would be afraid to leave the pits….

maybe even some speed-hump radar that’ll slow down the car automatically

I wonder what size bullets they are talking about? Currently the .005mm sheet (shyte) metal on Cherys would almost stop a BB at 10 metres. I suppose they are planning on being able to stop a .22 air rifle slug from 500metres???? If they put any heavier skins on the curent line up they will need new suspenion, engines and etc etc. I just doesnt go together – Chery and bulletproof – another oxymoron!!

Coincidentally, Chery and Baosteel, China’s biggest steelmaker, have made an agreement to cooperate. Chery makes its R&D resources available to Baosteel for, I don’t know…. perhaps a discount on this heavy gauge stuff.

btw you Aussies, whatever happened to the planned Super V8 events that I heard were going to take place at the new Shanghai F1 Circuit? They’ve gotta pay off the mortgage on that behemoth somehow.

From my knowledge Avesco and the Chinese motorsport federation (or whatever its called) couldn’t agree on dates for the 2006 race, also the first race wasn’t much of a success so not sure if they had the sponsorship on the Chinese side to make it worth it. Avesco is as stubborn as the Chinese when it comes to getting what they want so they both lose face on that issue.
The first race was held in 2005 and it had a pretty useless turnout. It was too bloody hot and tickets were a bit expensive for a series that no one here had heard of (I flew from home to watch). The race was in June and the main grandstand wasn’t even full. Bear it mind it was incredibly $&&*#(*@) hot those days.
It was pretty funny having the opening ceremony on the Sunday after they had already raced on Saturday.
The best time to have it would be between the middle of Sep and end of October but that is the time of the long distance rounds so is not likely to happen…. Bathurst is more important than any overseas race.
Wikipedia said there were 70,000 people there…. not sure if that was over the 3 days though but stands were pretty barren and it was easy enough to walk and sit in the covered stands without the right ticket.
