$1.5 Billion Dollar Russian Deal For Geely

22 November 2007 6 Comments

Geely has just landed a 1.5 BILLION dollar deal to supply their Northern neighbour with 1.5 billion dollars worth of Geely Automobiles over the next five years.

Geelys overseas sales are expected to skyrocket next year when their Ukrainian and Indonesian manufacturing plants go online and mass sales can begin.

Geely is possibly one of the most ambitious Chinese car makers in China, Geely is privately owned, and has no foreign partners for manufacturing, Geely is doing it all by themselves. Geely is expecting to crack the European and American markets with factories in those respective regions over the next few years.

Geely is not the only one to be breaking into the Russian market, Lifan also recently made an entry into the market, with a slightly smaller 160 million USD deal, and a sucesful crash test in Russia.

Clearly the Russian governments latest round of sanctions against Chinese makers is not having a great effect on the Chinese determination to get into certain markets.

in Russia Geely too has a assembly-plant. I have in view of AMUR-factory, which is located in Novouralsk (www.amurmotors.ru).
Appositely, if you know russian language, you can read the test of Geely Otaka (for you CK), Lada-Priora and Daewoo Lanos, which created a russian car-magazine: http://www.autoreview.ru/archive/2007/18/lanos_otaka_priora/

Excellent critique by Autoreview.ru. Lots of room for improvement in quality and otherwise, especially in the crash test department.

The Lada isnt looking too bad now!

What is the final outcome of the magazine article?

    to Ashley:
Chevrolet (Daewoo) Lanos - wins first place
    Lada-Priora - second place
and Geely Otaka - is outsider, because he has poor quality, bad controllability and passive safety
