My guess is that this vehicle is one of those brought in by would-be importer of various Chinese makes and models, David Shelburg of Arizona. He named it the Gangstar, a name which drew quite a bit of attention in itself.
Have a look at this September 1995 article about it in Popular Mechanics magazine.

Don't know if this lengthy URL will work for you or not.....

Jim,

I am now the proud owner of the Rig. I love it. It's the same color but the interior has changed a little. Still going! Top still in good condition but would love to find some parts for the sliding window locks. Let me know if you still have it.

Thanks for the info; I know they still make them brand new for the Military. I saw one just last week; actually I got to ride in it. But my Chinese is very weak, and my friend that was with me did not ask the right questions. There is little info on the net about them so; I'm just going to have to do some old fashion foot work

You will need to use a proxy server. For some reason that site is blocked by the Great firewall of China (at least to me it is anyway).
Hang around a military base and you will see a few of them, not so many just driving around though.

I moved to China about 3 months ago. Looks like I will be here for a few years. I am trying to find out more info on these Jeeps. I tried the link above but it would not open. Any info would be helpful.

Ashley!
Thank you for posting the pics and a little background on my rig.
An FYI for anybody here in the states that might have a 2020, I have a couple of part contacts and the ability the track down the part nos you may need. Just drop me an Email. As far as those people who drop profanity blogs at the China Car Times, please grow up. I have posted my opinion on the sight without it. And yes there are some really awful looking Chinese cars out there..But then again I can say the same about some overpriced american cars and european rigs too. Just keep it clean.
And PS EVRYWHERE I GO I DRAW ATTENTION. 99.5% of those asking about it want to buy it. I've had offers over 12k. JC
