The name ‘Jim Corty’ must be the stuff of legends in the Beijing Jeep factory, for he is the man who managed to keep a Beijing 2020 Jeep on the road, and in reasonably good condition for more than 24 hours at a time, although he only managed it with a little help from a willing Ford Bronco.
Mr. Corty bought the 1997 Beijing 2020 via a Mississippi based company, he isnt sure how the BJ2020 got into the USA, but remarked that in Mississippi, the DVLA will stick a license plate on anything. Most of the other B2020’s that were imported were eventually found and confiscated by the American government, but Mr. Corty seemed to have found a way to fight the machine, and keep his own machine running for more than 20 miles at a time.
Mr. Corty used a 1969 Ford Bronco chassis and engine, then stuck the BJ2020 shell on top, as simple as. The US Government couldn’t take away his pride and joy, as legally it falls under kit car specifications, all he has to do is keep the safety specifications at the required legal level of 1969, so all he had to do was install some seatbelts.

Hi Ashley, you know there is a website for Beijing Jeeps outside China: see http://www.beijingjeep.org/membersrides/
You can find my 1987 BJ 212 there!
Greetings! Erik
Ashley!
Thank you for posting the pics and a little background on my rig.
An FYI for anybody here in the states that might have a 2020, I have a couple of part contacts and the ability the track down the part nos you may need. Just drop me an Email. As far as those people who drop profanity blogs at the China Car Times, please grow up. I have posted my opinion on the sight without it. And yes there are some really awful looking Chinese cars out there..But then again I can say the same about some overpriced american cars and european rigs too. Just keep it clean.
And PS EVRYWHERE I GO I DRAW ATTENTION. 99.5% of those asking about it want to buy it. I’ve had offers over 12k. JC
Jim - sorry for the delay! I published this article over a month ago, but for some unknown reason it never made it out!
So you have a Ford Bronco with a BJ2020 body. Unusual, yes but which is flattering which?
I moved to China about 3 months ago. Looks like I will be here for a few years. I am trying to find out more info on these Jeeps. I tried the link above but it would not open. Any info would be helpful.
You will need to use a proxy server. For some reason that site is blocked by the Great firewall of China (at least to me it is anyway).
Hang around a military base and you will see a few of them, not so many just driving around though.
BAW still make them, although Ive never seen a dealer anywhere!
The BJ2020 army jeeps are being slowly upgraded to the newer one. Search CCT for it, I believe its been up here several times before. Ive seen Jinan Army using them!
Thanks for the info; I know they still make them brand new for the Military. I saw one just last week; actually I got to ride in it. But my Chinese is very weak, and my friend that was with me did not ask the right questions. There is little info on the net about them so; I’m just going to have to do some old fashion foot work
