Lifan sucessfully creates a 1.8 VVT motor

18vvtmotor.jpg

Lifan have created what is being billed as the first domestically created VVT engine! The 1.8l VVT is the first of its kind from a Chinese company, and its getting the fanfare that it deserves.

The engine was apparently made in cooperation with Ricardo, who have been helping various Chinese car makers over the past few years (Roewe, Chery, etc) with their engines and redesigns. Lifan now has 1.3, 1.5 and 1.8 motors - all of which are self designed. Previously Lifan used BMW acquired engines that they got from BMW Brazil.

The new 1.8 is a 4 cylinder engine, water cooled, giving 100kw/172 N.m/r, it also meets Euro 3 emissions standards. Lifan say their new 1.8 is on par with international technology standards, and will be in production by the middle of 2008. Will it go in the new Lifan 620? Probably!

Shouldn’t they be aiming for at least Euro IV if they want to be exporting these babies!

A bit weird here, What is the point of developing a Euro 3 engine when you have Euro 5 engine already .

Its a 1.8 VVT motor - something they’ve independently designed and manufactured (well, with a little help from Ricardo ;))

Ill get more info on the Euro 5 models.

Like Xiali and Geely, Lifan has also used the Toyota
8A-FE engine in its 520 sedan…..with or without license, I’m not sure.

This engine will be in the 620. Also the other engines are based on Toyota technology but Lifan claim they are their own designs. The tritec engine is basically a BMW engine.
