Quote "The Hafei Lobo is a self designed and researched model from Hafei Autos from Harbin City". Thats wrong. The Hafei Lobo was designed by Pinifarina, an italian car design and engineering company

Beijing Jim,

You are probably right! Imagine someones head hitting the steering wheel at such speed and velocity!

Below I have copied a portion of the story...

"The frontal impact shows the dashboard collapsed, pinning the drivers knee. Oddly the steering wheel seems to have twisted as though it has melted."

Seeing a lot of old driver's ed videos here in the states tells me the driver's HEAD did the magic twisting. NO melting or alien ray guns involved here, just a good old hit with the head...Which probably would have resulted in trama or death. A descent air bag would've done the trick..He would've been more than a veg, but still in a wheel chair.

I know there's a lot of chat on here about chinese cars and how they're progressing and they'll soon be the new Japan and take over the world. However, this proves they still have a lot of work to do. These pictures aren't good but if you sit down and think about what it would mean if you were inside it doesn't bear thinking about. Like you I've had a serious crash before (in a Cotroen Saxo). OK, I got whiplash but the airbags and crumple zone saved me. There is a lot of work to be done, safety is paramount to human life!

I don't think so, the engine compartment pushed the dash that crushed the passengers... what's an airbag if your car is crushing you...??

OMG how can this be acceptable???
I've crashed driving an Opel Corsa once, head on into oncoming traffic, while I was doing 60 km/h... the car was totaled, completly destroyed. I walked away without any scratch though.
I imagine now if these cars were sold here and people bought these things... on that crash I was into, I would be, if alive, seriously injuried.
Chinese cars still have much to improve about safety before I even start considering buying one...

Would airbags actually help in this situation? If the car is so weak then perhaps not.
