El Mundo tells us about Chinese cars.

We dont speak a lick of Spanish, except for what we learned via the Fast Show when we were nippers (above), but apperently, Spanish website, El Mundo, has a good write up on the Chinese car industry.

We’re told that they say the Chinese car industry is still in its infancy, but is growing very fast!

The Chinese Industry generally have a unique way of rising. Even as the Car Industry is still at its infancy, I’m not surprised that it is moving fast. Kudos to the Chinese Car Industry.

I own a company named AUTOSTAR i s Spain. It does most of its business on importing Chinese parts for cars and motorcycles for Spain and for other European countries. I am overall satisfied with Chinese products and often I have found innovative products, not seen from other suppliers that have granted good profits. I will expand my purchases of Chinese innovative products

Dear Ash,

My company, named Autostar Europe is not specially singular. We just buy parts as belts, tensioners, brake parts, alarms, batteries and many others and sell them in Europe.

I wrote the reply just because being Spanish, I wanted to note that some Chinese brilliant achievements can be valued in our country.

It is true that SOME Chinese companies just copy, but being China the largest country in population, there are companies of all kinds. Some only copy and some innovate. I preffer doing business with the second ones

Only from Chinese companies I have been able to source two way alarms with GSM. Only in China you can have electric motorcycles manufactured, which we have not imported because our distribution is inadequate for this product. Some very specific belts for engines, like double sided ribbed belts or belts with aramid cord, we have seen as many Chinese companies making them as in all other countries together. Now we plan to source from China a highly technological product which I will not mention to keep an edge on competitors.

I have visited many factories in China. Some of them can compare to the best factories in the west. Again the size of China allows for a wide variety of companies.

Also Chinese factories are flexible and can take small size orders when needed.

If I were to point the area where I would welcome most improvement it is lead time for delivery of orders, but I have no doubt it will substantially improve in the near future. We are talking about it with some suppliers because it will offer us an edge on competition.

I do not see anythig very special about AUTOSTAR EUROPE. Only we see China with an open mind for a country that is growing and often innovating, and we are car and motorcycle enthusiasts, so we try to bring new products to market.

I pesonally look forward to visiting China again in the near future

Mr Muro,

Your business sounds very interesting. You are right, Chinese factories are very flexible with their production, and there is a vast difference between the cheaper factories, and the more expensive ones.

Good luck with what you do!

“Madrid - When China was admitted on the WTO, it’s made a compromise to respect the intelectual property. Since then, few years have passed, but Chinese automakers don’t seem to respect that agreement.
.
And this DISRESPECT does not refer only to purses and vestments, that are sold to the public in open markets of the chinese cities, but also in the AUTOMOTIVE WORLD. In this area, the automakers from that country demonstrate having no modesty to attend international shows with models that are replicas of the european ones.”

If I have some time, I’ll try to whip up a translation. At least it’ll make more sense than a babelfish translation.

I really enjoy reading this, it hits the nail right on the head, the most serious problem of Chinese automotive industry.

Btw I think I spotted a mistake in that article.

I think the Chery Tiggo looks more like a Toyota RAV4 than a Honda CR-V. :D
