Brilliance BS4 Crash Test

Share Our Knowledge With Your Friends, Contacts And Co-Workers

The Chinese government group responsible for crash testing vehicles in China has recently crash tested a group of vehicles. We’ll be looking at these vehicles over the next few posts.

First up is the Brilliance BS4, otherwise known as the Jun Jie in China was tested. Test results do not appear very good.

100% front impact.

 40% offset impact

The offset crash test does not appear good, especially as the dashboard has landed on the driver. It almost looks like the driver is pinned to the seat.

Side Impact

The side impact does not look very good, although it is not absolutely terrible.

C-NCAP has not yet released the results of the BS4, however others are estimating around 3 stars.

It should be pointed out that Brilliance did receive 0 stars in the German crash test (although it was unofficial) and then received 3 stars later on with an improved car in Spain.

Btw is BS4 brilliance’s latest model or old model ?

BS6 was the first, then BS4, then coupe, then hatchback.

you’re right the 100% front test is not bad, but studies have shown that the most common type of head on crash is the 40% type. This really doesn’t look that good after a 40% crash. I think more work (and quickly) is required.

When they entered the Western market, Hyundai solved similar problems by adding huge new structural members, at the expense of making the cars weigh hundreds of pounds more than the competition.

OK, so this isn’t the best solution but they solved the safety problem until their technology caught up. If you are entering a market for the first time you can’t afford to enter it and get the reputation for designing and building death traps. The chinese car manufacturers haveto sit up and improve or else they’ll never enter the world stage.

You’re right, Colin G. That is why you don’t really see any Chinese made cars on the streets of Europe or North America. And I think the president of Chery already made that point very clear that they will not enter American or Europe until all the problems are solved, and distribution network is organized.
