VW Santana Vista, ancient German motoring madness
VW are set to roll out the Santana 3000 out for another shot at the Chinese market.
The Vista is basically the Santana 3000 that has been given a slight makeover to make it fit into the range of current VW cars for sale on the Chinese market, think extra bits of chrome around the grill, and you’d be bang on the dollar. The Santana Vista will be equipped with either a 1.8, or a 2.0l engine coming in at 90,780rmb for the basic 1.8 manual to 122,000rmb for the top end luxury 2.0 auto model.
The Santana still remains as popular as ever in China. Nothing can top the sales of a car which is a proven, tried and tested motoring legend. The Chinese people just love this car.

these santanas are actually evolutions of the ones developed in Brazil in the early 90′s..
.
It’s underpinnings goes way back, to the mid 80′s, to the original VW Passat (B2 family). VW Brazil took it and renamed it Santana. But in 1991, rather than replacing it by the new European Passat (B3), they facelifted and called it the new Santana. Which is, saving the facelifts and minor upgrades, the same car shown in this topic.
.
In Brazil the santana’s gone out of production many years ago, and were mainly used by taxi cab drivers..
Santana Vista? Did Microsoft involve itself?
Let’s hope Microsoft had no involvement or else they’ll keep crashing!
I believe I’m correct in saying the Santana 2000 is the name given to the car in Jackon’s post. The Santana 3000 was a redesign of this by Shanghai Volkswagen. As far as I can tell largely cosmetic at the front and back end. It looks like Vista (is it really going to be called that?) is going to be pretty similar in that way.
Just saw one of these on the street (Shanghai) as a taxi. I can safely say one difference is that it says Vista on the back. I was left scratching my head for other differences.
It’s good to see the Western car companies copying the Chinese for a change, by selling out of date crap!!
It looks likes a cross between the Santana 2000 and 3000.
I just drove south to Fujian province and saw a couple of crashes (6 actually) one caught my eye…..a newish Santana first gen and judging by the damage it looked like it had been rear ended by a concrete barrier, the trunk was about a foot long but the cabin was intact and the roof line looked pretty strait.
How was the drive? From SHanghai to Fujian?
Slow with intermittent periods of stopped. Roads were damp and a bit wet but it was snow free…..not idiot free though.
Even the mountain pass was clear.
Did you do it in your Chang, or your Santana ?
The Santana……the Chang would have taken days.
EM QUE PAISES DA AMERICA O SANTANA É COMERCIALIZADO?
SANTANA SEJA BEM VINDO AO BRASIL NOVAMENTE
