Dongfeng to launch own brand sedan this year?

Dongfeng is one of the biggest car makers in China, holding JVs with some of the worlds biggest auto players you would think Dongfeng would have started their own independent brand by now, especially with all of the experience they have gained from working with Honda, Nissan, Peugeot, and Citroen.

Dongfeng did actually create some of their own cars, but dang, they are ugly, point in case would be their coupe, on the other side of the coin, you have the Dongfeng JingYi, which looks really great, oh, and the Dongfeng Hummer.

Their latest sedan is rumored to be a B class car to go up against the Ford Focus, and Buick Excelle vehicles. Eventually, Dongfeng will cover the B, C, and D segments with its vehicles and increase its dealership network to 75 dealers.

as far as I’ve seen, dongfeng “own” cars are only rip-offs, as seen on that fugly coupe (copy of the already ugly Hyundai Tiburon), the minivan (Mitsubishi Grandis), not to mention the Hummer…
.
I wonder which vehicle is dongfeng going to copy and claim it to be it’s “own” sedan..

The hummer is made under license.

The coupe is ugly, that there is no denying, but comparing it to the Tiberion? They are vastly different!

The minivan design was outsourced to Italy, it is a lot smaller than the road hulk, the Grandis. Dongfeng are planning to take this car up against the Chang’an CV8/Landwind Shi Shang sector.

if the hummer is made under license, so I guess you shouldn’t mention, in the article above, that it is one of the dongfeng “own” cars.

Jackson Liu

it is always better to get information before making accusations.

asyou can see from the post below, I think you are the one who should probably get better information before judging somebody else…

.
2)Hyundai Tiburon RIP-OFF!!!
please consider the following pictures:

.

.
there’s no denying the monster is heavily based on the tiburon… aside the headlights and grille, the rest of the car is pure rip-off… the whole body shape is tiburon.
.
the rear though, is based on the facelift of the first tiburon (2000) :

.

as I said, the dongfeng is just a monster version of the already ugly/poser tiburon.
.
3)It doesn’t matter if it was designed in China, Italy, Brazil or Iceland… what matters is that the minivan’s design is also purely a copy of an existing product…

.
http://www.chinacartimes.com/wp-content/2007/09/dongfeng_mpv.jpg
.
if I wasn’t told it was a dongfeng, I would take it as a grandis easily… the front end is just IDENTICAL!!!!
It doesn’t matter either if it’s smaller, or meant to compete with this or that… IT’S A CARBON COPIED CAR! Those facts don’t change that…
.
chinese automakers, once again, showing their great criativity… they COPY cars, but from different automakers…!!

I really apologize for posting 11 times to get my reply.
.
I’ve tried to make it all in one single post, but seems that this forum DOES NOT accept posts with more than ONE internet link in it…

On a completely unrelated topic. But whilst I have the attention of the moderator….how about a survey on what cars the contributors drive. It’d be interesting to see what the likes of Ash, Jackson Liu or Mememe drive.

hahaaha sorry about that
I was just outraged since it took me several minutes to write that post, but the forum just wouldn’t accept it…
.
so I’ve tried and tried until I figured out the forum would only accept automatically posts with only one internet link in it…
so, I went on and divided that mega-post into several ones…
.
sorry for making you loose you whole morning.. =)

I agree with Colin, you could make a section that people could introduce themselves…
.
although I think that the kind of car any of us drive makes no influence on our opinions and considerations here…

hi Ash, is there a way to put a picture here, I have some pictures of a Dongfeng prototype version of the Elysee, and it looks like that is the car we have to expect. Erik.
