New Buick Excelle from Buick China – unmasked, and uncovered!
The Buick Excelle is one one the most popular cars on the road in China today, we dont know why, but middle class moms and pops just love to buy the 1.6 or 1.8 Excelle sedan! The latest sedan, shown below, has a new front end which brings it into line with the current Buick China line up, the rear end reminds us of the Brilliance BS4 though! The model shown below appears to be a lower model, due to its wheel trims instead of alloys, but all in all, it looks like a decent motor that is poised to continue with its massive sales once it is launched next year. This latest Excelle will be going up against the latest VW Jetta, and the new Santana 4000, the previous gen Jettas are the top sellers in China month on month.
The same engines as the previous gen Buick Excelle’s will be carried over to the above car, giving it either a 1.6l or a 1.8l with either manual or auto transmissions. The above Excelle is expected to be launched at the Beijing Auto Show later this year and will be one of the ‘big cars’ to go and see, alongside the latest Jetta and the Santana 4000!

QUICK!! Mask and cover it up again for the sake of all that is decent!!!
Who’da thunk an “old fart” car could pick up so much steam?? In the U.S. they are usually used for plowing down groups of innocent people in farmer’s markets by octogenerians…
But have you seen the next generation Buick interiors? There won’t be any “old farts” driving them…
In China, younger people love Buick. Very popular…Changes are being made.
This is terrible. What’s with that front end. I agree, kill this car off!! It’s awful. It’s trying to compete with the chinese cars on the ugly stakes!!! It almost wins too!
GM plans to sell a Buick one size smaller than the Buick LaCrosse in the US. The Excelle fills this slot perfectly.
A derivative of the Buick Excelle or Buick Skylark may be the first vehicle General Motors imports completely assembled from China to the US. It is only a matter of time before GM imports some fully assembled models from their GM/SAIC operations to be sold in the North American market. This vehicle would be perfect.
Well, that is the current rumor (or rumour as others might spell it) about Buick. In order to meet CAFE regulations a vehicle smaller than the Lacrosse will be sold in the states to bring up their fleet mileage up. Allegedly, the vehicle will be based of the Excelle. This is just like the Chevy Aveo(Kalos in Europe) being sold in the U.S. to help the CAFE numbers. On another note, this is probably why Ford will be selling the next generation Fiesta in their home market to help meet CAFE numbers as well.
This would be an ideal car for the US market. Smaller, still luxurious and something that would help Buick expand their line up stateside. I wrote about this topic here: GM Mulls A Compact Sedan For Buick.
Ive seen a few on the road now, nice from the back, the front end is something that you need to grow to like.
Although I will admit to seeing the first one and thinking ‘Oh, wow, the Lifan 520 is looking REALLY good!’
I’ve just seen one and I couldn’t agree more Ash about the Lifan 520 especially from the back.
Its obvious that Buick have swung further towards the Lifan design, even the Buick logo is more like the Lifan one now.
I just went car shopping in Guangzhou, China. For the price I much preferred the Kia Forte to the Buick Excelle.
