Last week we showed you ‘When car mods go bad‘ this week we show you ‘When car mods go REALLY bad!’
Not everyone can afford a motor from a luxury marque, some of us in China have to make do with domestically made vehicles rather than import models. Its those that buy the Chinese made models, and then adorn them with foreign labeling that make us smile the most.
Wonder what we’re on about? Click continue reading:
A BMW sports car costs a lot of money in Germany, and in China, it costs even more thanks to the luxury import car tax. Not to worry though, you can just buy a Geely Beauty Leopard in sports yellow, then attach BMW badging. You’ve just saved yourself 700,000rmb for the BMW Z4.
What about a sedan? Perhaps you need to carry five people in relative comfort. Cant do that in a coupe! Take your Zhonghua BS4, slap on some BMW detailing and you may fool a few people!
BYD F3 Becomes a Toyota
Plenty of people have said before, that the difference between a BYD F3, and a Toyota Corolla is mainly a badge. Look what we have here:
Then there is those who just put different badges on their Geely:
Turn your SCEO in an X5, the easy way!
The above images go to show, that modifying your cars outer appearence is big money in China. 3M, the US stationary maker, gotten in on the massive car modding market in China, their stores dont contain Post It Notes or White Out, instead its sports exhausts, alloys, bodykits and lettering/stickering. Changing your cars badging is just a bit of fun - its obvious that your car is not a Ferrari by sticking a Ferrari badge on it, but it does show that people do aspire to own a BMW, Ferrari, or other top end marque one day, I mean, who doesn’t?

I wonder if we will see a Daewoo badge on a Buick or Chevy next???
I love the one on the hood of the Geely Beauty Leopard. It’s off center just like the original Geely badge.
I guess since some Chinese guys can’t buy guns to compensate for…uh…lack of penis size, then this is the result.
I didn’t think it was about aspiration at all. I think it is about embarrassment that you can’t afford a better car.
.
There is also the fact that the public is so ignorant of cars in general that if they were to see a BMW logo they would just take it as a BMW no matter the car it is on. (Ignorant enough in fact that they might confuse a BMW and BYD logo…or a CHERY for a CHEVY!)
The saddest thing is when you see a fake Hyundai, as I have. I thought fake Toyotas were bad enough!
The Chery converted to a C-Class is exquisite. Looks just as good as the real one (did I say that?).
