The official launch must be coming at one of the upcoming motor shows. Not much seems to have changed on them compared to the pics I took at the Guangzhou motor show.

Is this car based on the Citroen C1/Toyota Aigo? Its styling is almost identical.

I think those three F1 were actually the one on display at the Ghuangzhou auto show, weren’t they?

The 2 in Guangzhou were silver and black.

Since when do copies be called ‘based on’

Daihatsu Sirion body shape, Aygo rear cut and paste.

Dont they ever create originals

Aygo + Citroen C1 + Peugeot 107…
.
it doesn’t really matter
those are all HIDEOUS cars….
.
I can’t understand why do chinese like to make uglier versions of already very ugly cars

well….
I’ve changed mypoint of view…
after reflecting for a little, I’m actually relieved they copy ugly cars…
.
I would feel really hurt if they made copies of a gorgeous Alfa Romeo Brera, or a Mercedes CLS, or an Infiniti G37….
.
I know chinese manufactures have alredy copied some great cars, but I hope if they are still to copy more cars, it better be some ugly ones…

Which is worse….. Chinese manufacturers copying small cars or the inability of a certain US manufacturer who can’t design something decent of their own and needed to buy Daewoo??

ouch ? ouch what??
.
what’s the big deal about buying a brand that’s already perfectly adapted to the local market demands??
It’s a MUCH SMARTER MOVE than creating a new division, investing millions to someday figure out if it may work!!
.
woxihuanpijiu and joninchina, this shows EXACTLYv that you still have much to learn about the auto industry dynamics!
GMAP (Asia-Pacific) was one of the GM divisions that has grown the most within the whole GM corporation, which only shows that it is taking the right steps in your market! Last I heard, I think GM is the second best seller brand in China!
.
And… what the hell is GM about all this???
.
FIRST of all we were discussing about those ugly chinese copies of fugly vehicles!!!!
.
if you are supportive the TOTAL DISRESPECT for IP, and supportive that chinese manufacturers simply COPY other cars instead of trying to develop new products and try to take own steps, than I guess it’s clear who’s the one that’s against the development of the Chinese auto industry here!!!

While I respect BYD’s rise in a few short years and what seems to be a decent showing from its electrical engines, I gotta agree with jackson here; this blatant copying is really holding back the development of the Chinese auto industry. I’m all for rooting for my fellow Chinese, but there’s gotta be some sorta regulation to control this rampant violation of IP in order to force manufacturers to actually go and pay people to do some designs. There’s GOT to be talented industrial designers SOMEWHERE on the mainland!

I know someone’s going to say the Japanese started by “copying” others as well, but just because they did it, doesn’t mean we have to do it! I rather drive an ugly but original POS (maybe it’ll turn out to be a classic?) than a mediocre ripped off POS.

Jackson……first of all my comment was simply meant IN FUN. Second…..if you would bother to read ANY of my past postings, you would realize that I am in fact a BIG supporter of the chinese car industry. I LIVE IN CHINA DUDE……..and I am just AMAZED at the progress they’ve shown in quality control AND original designs the last several years. No, I’m not talking about BYD - but how about the designs from Brilliance, the newer offerings from Chery (A1, A3, etc..), Changan (CV6, CV8) - even Geely with the King Kong, Vision and the Panda (ok…….maybe NOT the Panda). My POINT???? The Chinese car industry is IMPROVING - and improving QUICKLY. I DO agree that companies like BYD need to stop “copying” other designs…….and they WILL in the future (they MUST or they won’t survive in the long term). HOWEVER, I DO respect BYD for their incredible growth in such a SHORT period of time - as well as their ability to put out a quality product (even if the design is “inspired” by something else). As far as GM…..a good corporate move to buy Daewoo - but it DOESN’T ELIMINATE the fact that they couldn’t do it ON THEIR OWN. That’s pretty sad for the world’s BIGGEST auto manufacturer, don’t you think? How about this - if GM would stop spending SO MUCH money on R&D for the latest gas hungry SUV and start thinking about a practical car for the needs of TODAY’S world….maybe they wouldn’t be losing BILLIONS in revenue right now. In ANY case, MY comment (and I think woxihuanpijiu’s as well) was meant for the “lighter” side of things - next time you might want to THINK instead of reacting in such a harsh manner.

joninchina is right, it was a light hearted comment at GM because they couldn’t design a decent small vehicle on their own. I’m sure they could so it if they really wanted to but they took the easy option out and bought Daewoo after failing to buy Fiat (could have been around the same time, not really my interest). Seeing Vauxhall has a history of making smaller vehicles wouldn’t that experience be called on FIRST rather than spending millions purchasing another brand just for the IP?? (Like they did with Daewoo). Maybe those European inspired GMs weren’t deemed good enough for China even though they sold good numbers in other countries in the GMAP zone. Chinese consumers are not as stupid as you think they are. Most of them know a BYD is NOT a Toyota but at half the price and a similar (very very very similar) outside shell do you really think they care? I am not directly involved with “auto industry dynamics” But I like many on this site are a potential CUSTOMER who lives in China and thinks as long as the car is safe and reliable (preferably with a working handbrake) then whats the problem? I love seeing how the industry is unfolding here. A few years ago every second car on the road was a Jetta or Santana, now you can sit on the road and see 50 different vehicles in 10 minutes (not recommended without a respirator).
Do you come here because you have an interest in the Chinese industry or because your job at GM working on some of the worst vehicles in the US last year is getting to you and you need to vent your frustration somehow? Instead of being hypocritical about any non GM products (you never comment that some GMs are not so good) wouldn’t you feel better to acknowledge that BYD have a long way to go and need some help getting there.

Long post, I think I better put on my Pamu shoes and Reabak top and go buy a 5 kuai DVD and some Doritos… I’ll scream if they copy Doritos.

I normally pay 9 rmb for the ones ripped from HD(RIP)/Blue ray etc (still has the menus…varying quality) but the guy in front of my place sells the normal ones out of a wooden box for 5 rmb… depends how far I want to walk….lol.
Before everyone else flames me about copy movies I should state that if Hollywood would release more movies here at a reasonable price (say 20-30 RMB) then people would think more about buying them instead of copies… Making movies worth more than 5 rmb would be welcomed too…. some are absolute rubbish.

I buy real ones every now and again, some Chinese some foreign. Real ones are around 15 to 100rmb depending on their packaging and extra feature bits.

Im getting old though, and firmly believe there hasnt been a good movie since…..

I also buy real ones only. That’s because I rarely buy films.
Instead of buying fake ones I rather just download the movie.
don’t even need to leave home

1st - since when has this become a discussion about GM??? Feels like somebody here started criticizing GM just to get to me in some way. This discussion was about those ugly cars up there since the beginning, so I’m not going to argue about GM’s quality furthermore since it’s not the point of this blog.
.
2nd - I HAVE criticized many GM products. You really shouldn’t judge somebody by assumptions you make. For those with some little memory, I was one of the first ones to criticize the hell out of the chinese Buick Lacrosse. I was the first one to post that I hated the new Chevy Aveo. I have my critic point of view, and that’s what I try to bring here.
I don’t work in the US, so I’m not at all responsible with products there, which BY THE WAY, are a huge market sucess nowadays (see chevy malibu, the Lambda crossovers, pontiac G8, saturn aura, saturn Vue, saturn Sky, chevy silverado, chevy tahoe/yukon…).
People shouldn’t be blinded only by crude numbers. GM’s loss is not due to it’s automobile sales.
So, don’t know what’s really going on, don’t start publicing crappy wrong information, please.
I work with 3rd World market products. I own a Opel Corsa.
.
3rd - I’m here not to advertise GM products, nor freely criticize chinese products. If you can’t take someone criticizing your country’s products in a free speech blog, than you probably shouldn’t be here. Most chinese cars, unfortunately, SUCK!
But I’m not here just to blindly criticize. As I have already said, I’m supportive to the development of the chinese market. And in my point of view, making crappy copies of other cars can only drag the development back! If you can’t see it, I’m sorry. Keep on supporting shitty cars and chinese brands will drawn and overseas brands will reign in China.
.
4th - back to GM again, really brief: Aquiring IP by buying a company that’s already perfectly adapted to local market is the way GM found to grow in Asia-Pacific. Why the f.ck is absolutly needed to develop a vehicle it’s own??
you know what??
best sellers in china: VW santana, VW jetta, Buick Excelle, Toyota Camry, Corolla, buick, toyota, buick, vw, ford….
So don’t come with the crap that it didn’t develop a vehicle it’s own. Daewoo has done it FOR GM before it was bought, and that’s it! Daewoo developed vehicles for Asia, and the best move was to buy it, not investing billions in R&D to make a product that’s already available with the aquisition of Daewoo.
.
.
.
But again… since when has this become a discussion about ME or, about GM?? I’m really sorry if you can’t take people criticizing you country’s products. If you don’t want to have a diferent point of view and keep alienated into your own world, I’m sorry, but I’m still against the lack of intelligence of IP stealing and of the people that are supportive to that!
.
joninchina: sorry for overreacting your post, the harsh response was mainly because of woxihuanpijiu trying to get to me in some, of ANY way.
Apologies to all other bloggers too.
