In Western countries, when a car reaches the end of its product lifespan its usually cast away, and room made for the latest, better looking, better performance for the money model. Not in China though, China is a special land for autos, if they are not cloned in the first year of being on the market, then you already have a winner, if a car looks simple enough, doesn’t have any fancy flashy gadgets that add needless cost to the base price and maintenance price, then that car will sell a million models.
The VW Bora was such a simple model, it did exactly what it said on the tin. It was a car, it was big enough, it had seats, it went forwards and backwards, it had all the safety spec, and it didn’t cost a bomb. It was pretty reliable too. On the Chinese 2nd hand market place, the VW Bora has held its price very well much better than its Ford competitors. The old Golf recently became the Bora hatchback, and FAW VW want to carry on the Bora success.
FAW are going to roll out the Bora ‘Classic Edition’ at the Beijing Auto Show. It should be on show at the Beijing Auto Show later this year with a 1.6 engine, and possibly priced under 90,000rmb.

That is because most Chinese are fuking poor, and their Car industry is not up the international standard, that ’s why. If i am as rich like the Americans i will buy th most trendy car that i an affort. Now most foreign firms in China were selling last gen stuff in China and the fact that those stuff are flying off the shelf prove that what a miserable state chinese car industry or the whole chinese industry for that matter is in.
“pretty reliable”?? Why can’t they do that State-side? Are the electrics more simple over here?
.
But I always did like the look of the Bora the best of all the Jetta-esque VWs.
The bora was a nice car, well built and good looking. Wish I still had mine.
