Previously the Lavida was just named ‘Model Y’ but a screen shot of a Shanghai VW meeting of a Power Point presentation revealed that the Shanghai VW line up of cars was in for a treat.
The Lavida is expected to see production around June or July this year, prices are expected to be around 100,280rmb and rising. What engine will go in this car, we dont know. Will the rumoured Chinese made 1.4TSI find a place in this cars heart? We hope so. VW did once say the TSI range of engines will be produced in China. If the TSI is not in sight, then we can guess a 1.6l engine or perhaps share the 1.8T with the latest Sagitar (Jetta) . The Lavida will be built off the PQ34 platform, which is shared amongst a few models, namely the Sagitar (Jetta) new Beatle, Golf, Seat Leon, Audi TT, Audi A4, Skoda Octavia etc. The Chinese press have called this car a mini Phaeton, and are currently saying the Lavida will easily get 8,000 sales in 2008.

I spotted those pictures on the net a couple weeks ago, so I don’t think they are genuine pictures of the Lavida
VW China has got such a clutter of models all basicly at the same size and spec and price range, god knows why they need another??
Its British Leyland all over again, models competing with models etc etc.
Everyone says Chinese car marques need to consolidate, its VW that needs to consolidate most of all!
Looks like VW is milking the cash cow even more…. Hate to see the teets after they are finished with them.
this looks nice, what’s 100k rmb, a ford focus??
