Chery previously signed a distribution agreement with ATECO Australia to distribute the Chery range of vehicles in the land down under. ATECO Australia have finally announced that they will be importing A1, A5 and Chery Tiggo SUV to Aussie markets early next year.
ATECO Australia are the distributers of Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Ferrari, etc in Australia. ATECO Australia boss, Mr. Ric Hull, also stated that all Chery cars reach the ADR69 (Australian Design Rule 69, a standard for frontal crashes). ATECO say they will have around 75 dealers set up to sell the three models in the first year of going on the market, and will expand their offerings at a further date. The Chery cars are expected to be cheaper than their rivals in Australia but aren’t expected to undercut Korean and Japanese rivals by a long way.
Apologies for the picture, it felt right.

I think the title should be ‘Aussies Sceptical’ We are a pretty tough mob regarding cars and SUVs,the Tigo may do well, but not outside city limits.
If they are priced right (i.e low) then they could compete with some of the other cheaper cars available here.
Nice touch with the roos, but i think a bunch of galahs would be more suitable.
Dogtucker, I think you’re right. The Chinese cars should be going down the fuel economy route more than anything else especially in first world nations.
I have an aussie friend, he is the stereotype ultra macho Aussie male. He traded his ute in for a a Daewoo Matiz type thing, fuel economy, he said….
Nice ‘manly’ stripes up the side of the car though. Adds a bit of interest to a very dull shape!
I can see the sales pitch now…. Here we have the latest Alfa but if you are looking for something a bit cheaper we can sell you a Chery…
