We said we loved the Chery QQ5, some people scorned us for it, but we know what we we’re talking about! Perhaps those who did like that QQ5 model, will prefer the Chery S18, aka the Chery QQ2. We’re hearing it will be a sub 30,000rmb ($4,252USD) car once launched. The interior is basic, but functional enough to get you from A to B.
Power is likely to be from the previous Chery QQ engines - an 800cc, a 1.0l, 1.1l, 1.3l Hopefully it will get the 800cc TURBO treatment!
Let’s face it - this is a cool little car. The “minimalist” style really works well, and it appears at though it MIGHT have dual airbags - GREAT on Chery’s part to not skimp on a very important safety feature. I say get the 0.8l model, save a ton of money on gas and have a blast driving in the city for UNDER 30,000 rmb! Think the QQ3 was a success? This just might pass it up.
The original QQ3 had the option of airbags and a semi automatic gearbox.
Get me a QQ2, with the 800cc turbo engine and a semi automatic box, and Ill start a QQ PRIDE club!
Hey Ash, here is some obscure trivia for you…..even though the first brochures for the QQ (way back in 2003) advertised airbags, ONLY the drivers airbag was available!! Chery rushed the QQ into production, and passenger airbags weren’t actually available (as a option) until early 2004. Let’s hope that airbags are STANDARD equipment with the QQ2….and NOT a option.

It’s all very well having airbags, but is the car strong enough in a crash for the airbags to be effective. It’s very hard to get a small car safe but from what I’ve seen elsewhere on this site chinese manufacturers are struggling to get safety right on large cars.
The two headlamps together look bigger than the engine.
Wow, it looks great for a sub-30k RMB car. The back end looks really good, and I love that interior console. Why does this get so little press attention compared to the Tata Nano?
