Chevy Beat out testing in China

31 March 2008 7 Comments

beat-concept.jpgThe rumor mill is working overtime this week, so soon as well! A car that appears to be quite similar to the Chevrolet Beat concept car has been spotted out and about in China, leading pundits to believe that the Beat could be a much needed replacement for the rather tired Chevrolet Spark (Daewoo Matiz)

The Chevrolet Beat was released at the New York Auto Show in 2007 with GM saying it would be full of tech (GPS, Navigation, DVD etc) once it hit the market.

If GM were to launch such a good looking car, then surely it would be a hit in China. However, experience has taught us that Chevy cars offered in China differ vastly from the same offerings in the USA, especially when it comes to interiors!

This is the GM-GSV (global small vehicle), and it’s being developed part in Asia, part in Brazil.
I’ve seen the production model already, and this car actually doesn’t look nearly as good as the concept…
.
put some 14″ wheels with plastic covers, remove all that body cladding and replace that great looking headlight with much more common ones, and you detune a nice car into a odd looking one…
.
production model indeed looks MUCH better than the spark (daewoo shit), but isn’t much more than another odd sub-subcompact vehicle with a super high stance and tiny wheels…
.
can’t tell you if it’s going to be sold in China, but since it’s being developed in Asia, I don’t see reason why not…

Jackson,

Im pretty sure it will go into production in China, the Spark is well past its sell by date when compared to what Chery and the other small car makers are putting out these days.
