Chery gets official nod from govt for hybrid production

Hopefully, Chery are going to give the hybrid producing likes of Toyota and Honda a bloody good run for their money later this year when Chery knock out a Chery A5 hybrid engine. Chery have been granted official government permission to produce the 1.3l Chery A5 hybrid, and should be on the market at the end of the year.

Chery will also be planning to share some good will with the Olympic games later this year, when they will provide 50 cars for Olympic staff to travel in, further more, 40 of these cars will be the above mentioned hybrids.

We have no information as to how much the A5 hybrid will cost when it goes on the market, but we can guess that it will be a lot cheaper than the 250k plus that Toyota and Honda are asking for their hybrid motors. If the gasoline A5 is around 70,000rmb (give or take a few optional extras) then we could easily see the A5 hybrid sitting around 130,000rmb to 150,0000rmb, which will easily win it a few drivers!
