The Rover Streetwise was arguably the first ’soft roader’ vehicle. The recipe was simple, take your everyday family hatch, put some extra black cladding over the wheel arches and around the doors, raise the suspension a little and then sell the end product to those who want an SUV, but dont want the extra cost that comes with buying and running an SUV. The Rover Streetwise is now known as the MG3 Streetwise, and is being relaunched in China amid a recent trend of big purchases for little motors that look big. The Livina is coming back to have another crack at the Chinese market, in ‘Streetwise’ form.
The new Livina will be known as the Livina C-Gear, or X-Gear for other markets. The Livina C-Gear has a sporty interior (its black with bits of faux carbon fiber) and will continue to use the 1.6l engine that was fitted in the previous Livina models.
The current Livina line up consists of the C-Gear, the previous Livina, and the Livina Genesis. The Genesis, sometimes known as the Grand Livina is the larger, 1.8l, 7 seater Livina.
The Livina C-Gear will go into direct competition for sales against the popular Suzuki SX4, Polo Crossover, and the MG3 Streetwise. All of these cars are in the Livina C-Gears price range of 99,000rmb to 120,000rmb, this should make for an interesting hatchback crossover section!
