Chery are planning on releasing the Faira range of cars at the Beijing Auto Show, but perhaps you dont know that they have further surprises in store for us!
Chery will be taking the following cars to the Beijing Auto Show:
- The new Faira range
- Chery A3 range - both hatchback, and sedan
- Chery A3 BSG - The BSG range are the hybrid cars that Chery plans on producing, in this case, the Chery A3 BSG is a 1.8l engine with a hybrid drive train.
- Chery A3 1.3D BSG - Another hybrid engine, this time the D stands for diesel! A diesel hybrid first for China!
Want to read the rest? We recommend clicking continue reading!
- Chery A3 1.8T - We think the T in this model number is self explanatory, if not, T is for Turbo. Chery has been working on turbo engines for a year or so, there was also plans to produce an 800cc turbo QQ.
- Chery A3 2.0L BSG - Another hybrid from Chery, this time with a 2.0l engine.
- Chery A5 CNG - A duel fuel system for the Chery A5
- Chery Eastar Cross 1.9D - the D is for diesel!
- Chery Eastar 6 - This car was made in partnership with Bertone, under the hood there is a 3.0 V6 ATECO motor, developed by Chery.
- Riich 5 - There will be a display of a high end Riich 5 minivan that will be loaded with DVD, GPS Navigation etc on display
- Higgo - This is an entirely new SUV brand that Chery will be using as a world brand for its range of SUVs and pick up trucks. The SUV range will be built on new platforms, with new suspension (we hear that Chery are using Lexus SUVs for suspension benchmarks) designs, ABS/EBD, and also manual/automatic transmissions.
Sports Models
Chery is eager to get into the sports development side of the car business, they have seen the way that MG as a sports brand has taken hold in China, and wish to move their cars into the undeveloped hot hatch market!
- Chery A1 1.5 VVT sports - a sports model was unveiled a while back at a Beijing Conference for Chery workers, nothing has been heard about it since, until now! The regular A1 is a 1.3 manual motor, the sports model will get a GPS nav system and a sunroof.
- Chery QQ Sports - A QQ sports model was unveiled for the Malaysian market, but never for China. The QQ has becoming a popular model for younger drivers who wish to throw together a cheap, and reasonably fast car on a budget. Chang’an released the Ben Ben Sports model, obviously Chery has to put something against it!
- Chery A5 Sports - The A5 sports model will be a 1.8 tuned up model with extra sports accesories. Like the QQ, the A5 is a popular model for tuning nuts who like to get an extra bit of juice out of their A5! Airbags are being put in the front, and sides of the car for extra safety. We hear that a turbo version may also be in the works.
Other:
- To improve A1 sales, Chery has also fitted an automatic gearbox to the popular little motor which will no doubt make it ten times more popular.
It is obvious that this year, Chery plans to show off its engineering skills rather than design skills! Previous Chery stands have been a collection of beautiful designs, which have yet to be put into production. The above models have the technology that Chery have so long talked about developing but havent yet put into development. We hear that Chery have been working with Ricardo on the hybrid models, thus this coming Beijing show will be a big show for Ricardo as well!
What do China Car Times readers think of the massive jump in Chery R&D over the past year?

Lots of cool new cars………..but NO A1 hybrid? We saw one last year at the Shanghai show - why isn’t Chery putting it into production???? A auto gearbox for the A1 is great as is a sports model………WHERE IS THE HYBRID????
A1 hybrid is old news now, were onto bigger, more exciting things!
Rumors of an A1 crossover are also persisting!
I kinda like the name Faira
The Chery A3 1.8T sounds like it could be a fun car :-), then again not keeping my hopes up that it’ll actually be produced anytime soon like the fabled M14 or A6CC.
Looking at it again, maybe Im just thinking with old thought concepts, but shouldn’t the turbo be on the 2l engine and the 1.8 be mated with the hybrid system? Or is the 2L engine that old mitsubishi engine thats been running the paces?
A rendering of the Convertible/Cabrio version of the YY?!!

Bob,interesting find! It could be fan art though, but rumors of a cab version of the QQ have persisted for years!
Looks like its for real!

It looks much smaller when a model is standing next to it though
Even with the dash that kinda makes me want to gag, looks like a chick’s car, it still looks it could be fun to drive (providing your not boxed in between a bunch of trucks).
Now, lets just see if it goes the way of the M14…:-p
Looks like the YY Convertible along with the 5 others of the Faira series are coming soon! It looks like the Convertible will start under 80K RMB…

Any more on the Eastar Cross D? Or has that fizzled as well?
It was spotted out testing:

Thanks Ash, looks like one of the Acteco engines by the specs. Wonder if it made it beyond testing?
